About Our Home, My Keeper

Paige Crowley has a dilemma. Following the success of her recent series of children’s books, Paige has found herself struggling with a particularly persistent strain of writer’s block.
Fearful that her creative energy has gone for good, Paige decides to use her newly accrued cash to move out of the ever-busy London and into a quaint old home buried deep in the English countryside.
Paige hopes that a change of pace will reverse her fortunes, and she’ll finally be able to write a new fantasy epic her fans will adore…
But Paige gets rather more than she bargained for when she discovers her lovely new home already has an occupant. A brownie called Faye lives there, and she has been watching over the home for centuries.
Paige must learn to get along with her mysterious, other-worldly housemate – and, in the process, they may even fall in love.

A fantasy romance story. The art is really beautiful. The story didn't click with me as much as some of the other Studio Élan VNs.

Charmingly quaint (and British) writing as ever from Ebi-Hime. This time the production values reach lavish levels since it’s a Studio Elan production. The UI flourishes were particularly nice. There’s a nice realism to the protagonist and her thoughts, with the way she’ll second guess herself or how her musings circle back to her job as a writer. Might be a bit of confirmation bias though since I expect writers to know a writers mind best. Makes one wonder how much of themselves they put in the character. She pairs well with the adorable “max affection from the get go” brownie heroine. My main issue is that it feels a bit too short. The plot itself is fine but it feels like it needs one or two more scenes of slice of life downtime in between each plot development to let the relationship breathe a bit more. When there’s narration like “and then a few weeks passed”, it doesn’t really feel like it. Still, overall a sweet story with just the right amount of seriousness/darkness to add a little spice and a pleasant read throughout.

Our Home, My Keeper is a wonderful collaboration between Studio Elan and Ebi-hime, which are both known for making wonderful indie visual novels. OHMK is a Yuri kinetic visual novel. For those who do not know, kinetic means that the visual novel has no choices, and you are just along for the ride to enjoy the story. Since there are no choices, there is only one ending and the game is easy to get all the Steam achievements if you care about that (which I do :D). OHMK opens with Paige, a children's book author, who is struggling with writer's block. She decided to buy a house out int eh countryside to get a change of pace to hopefully get the creative juices flowing. But this house is a little odd, and Paige starts to see weird things. eventually we are introduced to the fairy Faye. Now I'm not going to go into more details since the whole point is to enjoy the story. So let's focus on the other stuff. The art is fantastic. The CGs, the sprites, and the backgrounds all look just amazing, so gorgeous. The music is very nice a fitting the story. I also appreciated that every time a new song started, a window in the top popped up and stated what the name of the song was. The story o…
