About Out of Ammo

Out of Ammo is an intense VR Tower Defense / FPS hybrid strategy game that puts you in the commander's seat against wave after wave of enemy soldiers. Built exclusively for room-scale VR, the game allows you to move around the battlefield to build defenses and issue orders. You can even directly possess your units to engage the enemy, making use of cover and preparing your magazines carefully so you don't.... run Out of Ammo!

Key Features

 • Eight unique campaign missions to test your skill
 • Three unique FPS challenge missions
 • Cooperative Multiplayer for up to four players
 • Ability to directly posses and control soldiers
 • Construct unique tower defenses such as machine gun nests and sniper towers
 • Issue orders to your soldiers to call in airstrikes and gunships
 • Different kinds of soldiers each with special abilities
 • Operate mounted machine guns, grenades, flares, and more

Unlock the potential of Room-Scale VR

Important: Requires room-scale. You must have a Valve Index, HTC Vive or an Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers. Out of Ammo has been designed exclusively around room-scale. Possessing your units allows you to utilize the full capability and power of the positional tracking; take cover behind sandbags, lean over a tower railing, or duck behind your sandbags and grab a grenade to throw as a last resort!

This game has its strengths and weaknesses, and actually, one weakness is so bad that it’s good. To be honest, this VR title feels more like a tech demo than a full-fledged game. It’s a mix of different modes that feel like the developer wanted to say: "Hey, look what kind of games you can make in VR!" The primary mode is a tower defense game with multiple levels. It’s okay overall; some maps are well-designed and require a tactical approach, while others are quite boring. The extra modes are fine too. But on my playthrough, I found out the hard way why this game could have it's title "Out of Ammo". It’s not just a title; it’s a promise caused by a bug. For some reason, you occasionally can't grab specific objects, which makes situations, like reloading, luck based. While this is a terrible control issue, it made the game significantly harder, especially in the final extra mission. I’d be lying if I said that this ironic "feature" didn't feel like a cool, unintended challenge. If you can laugh it off like I did, you can actually have fun with this experimental title. But don't be frustrated if you have difficulties trying to grab and put a new magazine, while you are literally …

Out of Ammo, developed and published by RocketWerkz, is a distinctive virtual reality title that merges real-time strategy with first-person shooter mechanics, delivering a hybrid gameplay experience that feels both dynamic and immersive. Set in a voxel-style battlefield, players are tasked with defending their base against waves of increasingly challenging enemies. The game’s appeal lies in its ability to seamlessly combine strategic planning with direct, hands-on combat, creating a layered experience that requires both tactical thinking and quick reflexes. The gameplay in Out of Ammo revolves around a dual approach. In the strategic mode, players act as a commander, placing defensive structures such as bunkers, turrets, and sniper towers while managing resources and positioning troops. This layer of planning requires foresight and adaptability, as players must anticipate enemy paths and balance limited supplies to fortify their defenses effectively. Once the battlefield is prepared, players can jump into first-person mode, taking control of individual soldiers to actively engage enemies, shoot from cover, and physically interact with the environment. This combination of macro-le…

Bad controls and poor interactibility is the bane of VR games Including this one

Unless the game is on a discount, i wouldn't recommend purchasing it. All survival playthroughs end the same, your medics and engineers keep running to the front-lines like a chicken without its head and proceed to get themselves killed. Yes you got the functions to 'enable/disable "auto repair" on engineers' and 'enable/disable "enemy corpse gathering" on medics', but it doesn't effect their behaviour still causing them to always run into front-lines. Even if it worked, there is so little time in-between waves that you wouldn't even have enough time to constantly disable/enable those engineer and medic functions safely since they are far from easy to access. oh yeah btw, anytime a tower of yours gets blown up while you're possessing one of your soldiers you get forced out of the soldiers POV. very annoying when you're trying to focus but every 3 seconds, 'possessing a soldier' gets interrupted.
“Out of Ammo? More Like Out of Control – And I Loved It”
I went in expecting a chill VR strategy game. You know—place a few soldiers, defend a base, sip some coffee. [Strike]Ten minutes later[/Strike] I’m screaming orders, flailing grenades, crawling on my floor trying to reload while my virtual medic gets sniped in the kidneys. This game is like babysitting a bunch of armed toddlers in a sandbox full of explosives—and somehow, it’s beautiful.

Strategy Meets Chaos (And Then They Both Explode)
You’re not just the commander here—you’re also the sniper, the builder, the guy frantically shoving magazines into empty rifles while enemies rush the gate. It’s tower defense, yes, but also full-body VR absurdity. One moment you’re placing sandbags like Bob the Builder with PTSD, the next you’re manually headshotting cardboard-faced soldiers with your shaky VR aim and a dream.

Possession Is 9/10ths of the Battlefield
One of the wildest parts? You can possess your units. Wanna be the sniper? Boom, you're the sniper. Wanna man the MG nest? Now you're the MG nest. It’s like playing chess, then standing up, kicking the bishop off the board, and be…

A fun base defender game, it works great in VR, but you can get overwhelmed very fast.
