Panzer Hearts - War Visual Novel is an unconventional narrative game that combines alternate-history warfare, romance, political themes, and light tank-building mechanics. Developed and published by HELYEES, it places greater emphasis on the human and ideological consequences of war than on battlefield action. Instead of controlling armies or commanding armored vehicles, the player follows a wounded young soldier named Bastian whose reassignment to a tank factory exposes him to people and ideas that gradually challenge his understanding of the Empire he serves. Bastian begins the story as someone heavily influenced by the propaganda and nationalist beliefs surrounding him. After being injured in combat, he is given another opportunity to contribute to the war effort by helping manufacture tanks. This change of circumstances is important because it allows the narrative to explore warfare from behind the front lines. The factory becomes more than a workplace. It represents the industrial system sustaining the Empire's military ambitions, while Bastian's interactions with the people around him reveal that the conflict is considerably more complicated than the patriotic version he has…

Pretty interesting overall, mixes romance with a war setting, the chracters carry it (Astrid my love). There are some choices, not 100% sure how much they affect things, but they're there! Good if you want something story-heavy with a bit of emotion. (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

granted i haven't finished the game yet at the time of leaving this review but i have to genuinely say this is a delightful game. could it have more polish? yes. is it endearing? oh absolutely. do i wish i could romance kontar instead of the women? 100000% yes [spoiler]also bonus points for the gay romance subplot with hans and the protection officer. i was playing this with a friend and we laughed so hard when the achievement popped up for it.[/spoiler] edit: as of 4/21 i have finished a playthrough of the game, and i will say my opinion remains unchanged that if this game had more time and polish it could be so much better. i found myself much more interested in the socio-political connotations of the world building that unfortunately weren't really expanded upon, and i was also frustrated with the fact that you seem to get way more opportunities to woo astrid than you do nefer so that part of the romance aspect felt very unbalanced (like whole plotlines dedicated to you being alone with astrid, with no way of getting out of them because of story relevance) but overall i think it's a fun game. i think they should do a 10th anniversary remaster. and let me kiss kontar.

Disappointing. Look, I tried to enjoy it, but he gameplay is nonsensical, so it's truly a visual novel with an annoying minigame. The worldbuilding is lacking, non of the side characters were memorable, the dating aspect is barebones and neither of the girls are interesting. I'll have to, one day, force myself to sit through the entire game, but based on what time I spent, I was at best bored, at worst genuinely repulsed by this horribly insensitive approach to relatively serious topics.
