It is genuinely a huge breath of fresh air to play an RPGmaker game that does not shamelessly look like all the other hundreds out there. Paracom knows its niche fairly well, having a strong aesthetic and artistic direction obviously influenced by late 90s games like Resident Evil, but as well as taking more than a few notes from the pseudo-near futurism of FEAR and some other early 2000s launch titles. One thing can be said, there is a chronic shortage of milslop RPGmaker games and let alone ones that actually have a lot going for them lore wise. While not necessarily more high brow than some of its contemporaries, there is a lot of unique ideas here and the first episode has a genuinely great set up. It works pretty great for a game of this sort and you can definitely see the Fear and Hunger influences from miles away, but it very much so is more invested in telling its own story rather than trying to be like anything else. Clearly, there is inspiration from SCP here and as someone who once created SCP mods, specifically factions and scenarios for Arma 3, it is really cool seeing someone tackle their own IP rather than be reliant on the legal grey-space that SCP provided. Paracom is a deeply flawed game, to the point of seeming unfinished. While the combat system itself is serviceable, everything around it makes even the enemy encounters unpaletable. The first and most apparent problem is the visuals and interface. Paracom is an RPGmaker game that has a reach exceeding its grasp, where the vague tactical meets paranormal aesthetic creates a very jagged and bleeding together combination of greys and blacks. this is further aggravated by shading and other obscuring effects from trying to create low light and fog visuals. all of the dark and muddy main coloration is then contrasted by the highlighting of the menus and interfaces being in a high saturation sort of cyan, which wouldn't really be a problem, if it weren't for the fact that all of the framing and art assets all seem to be highly pixelated and low resolution. This also then leads into the designs of the menus, interfaces, and interactions themselves. Almost every action you will try to take will be marred by poorly programmed or designed menu navigation, what a given key does at a given menu, or incredibly unclear instructions. You will go into a menu to equip/activate the laser…1 found this helpful

Paracom is an indie RPG / Survival horror game with a great atmosphere. It boasts classic top-down map exploration and turn-based first-person battles. The game has a lot of heart, some humor sprinkled in, and a great sense of dread and danger while you're exploring the maze-like monster-filled corridors. I really like the characters, and I've been enjoying my time with the game. While it is not perfect, I highly recommend it!1 found this helpful
Absolute Blast! Literally! I enjoyed RPG elements combating the different enemies, different weapon choices, and style of the game. Most exciting for me, I enjoyed the story so far. I like learning about the anomaly and uncovering the mystery. The added element of looking for the missing persons kept me striving to continue the search. Great fun and the fact the story can change based on decisions adds a great element to replay again. Fantastic!1 found this helpful
Good concept, but requires refinement and bug fixes.1 found this helpful
