About Parasite
✦ AI summary
Inhabit human bodies to survive in a hostile modern city where you'll scavenge resources, build safe havens, and uncover a mystery through possession-based survival horror. This roguelike stands out with its deep host customization system, dynamic NPC interactions, and an intelligent enemy faction actively hunting you across a fully generated urban landscape.
Parasite is a roguelike survival horror game about possession set in a modern-day setting. Currently in development, each session is set to be medium length (around 2-3 hours to complete). The game is fully completable to the end but needs GUI work, balancing and polish.
Current features include:
Parasite has been in sporadic development since 2016, with 2022 being the year I decided to devote my full attention to making it release-worthy on Steam. I'm quite proud of the way the game has evolved so far and I believe my original vision will finally be achieved.
Current features include:
- A whole generated modern-day city to explore and survive in.
- A single story scenario that starts with the main protagonist alone, scared, and without any memories in a hostile human world.
- Sandbox mode that allows you to play at your leisure (or rather, at your peril).
- Possession mechanics that is crucial to the player's survival (see, you just die very fast without a host).
- Robust host inventory, skills and knowledge system.
- Player evolution unlocking new improvements and body features for the possessed hosts.
- Building and improving habitats to rest and recuperate.
- Separate difficulty settings for all key parts of the game that will be prompted organically during its course.
- Event timeline investigation to piece together both what has happened before and what to do next.
- A dangerous and proactive group of opponents that is tasked with finding and destroying threats to humanity (you).
- NEW! The ability to have conversations with NPCs resulting in various benefits.

Bought this game a few years ago because the concept looked cool, didn't imagine it would start using AI slop so it's a shame really.4 found this helpful

Game's a little rough around the edges still, but the developer is really active about collecting and considering feedback. It's quite clear this is a passion project, and that they intend to see this thing through to proper completion. Not thrilled with the AI art, but you can turn it off - and they've been honest about it. Considering that before they added AI generated images it was mostly clip art, I suspect they would have preferred actual human made art as well, but just don't have the time or money to make it happen. I know I've been a bit critical for a positive review, but I'm a cautious person - and I almost skipped over this game for the reasons I listed above. So if you saw the same red flags as me, but liked the concept of this game enough to check the reviews before discarding it - know this: The game's good. A bit clunky, held together with duct tape and a prayer in places, but it's still good. It has heart and identity. That's what really matters.1 found this helpful
A fun game definitely worth the price although personally one aspect I am not a fan of the "Group" (Your main threat) just seems to appear from nowhere often feeling like it doesn't really give you a chance to develop your habitats and play into the development of the parasite. I feel like this wouldn't be so bad if you had certain locations like for example the uninhabited regions being a lot harder for the group to locate your habitats but with the downside of having to travel so far to get hosts adding its own risk. That aside this is great game which I will look forward to playing more and more.1 found this helpful
Dev decided to pivot to AI art. Before you respond, yes I am aware there is an option to turn it off, I'd just rather not support projects which support an industry that is fundamentally based on massive corporations increasing their stock value and swaying global politics off of scraping the works of individual artists that don't receive a dime.
Really great concept!
