About Pine: A Story of Loss
Pine is an interactive and emotional short story told wordlessly through hand-drawn animation and music, designed to be played in a single sitting.
It follows the story of a woodworker grieving the recent passing of his wife. Now alone in the glade where they made their home, he attempts to move on.
His simple daily chores of tending to his garden or collecting wood for the next winter are interrupted by memories of the happy times they spent together. Desperate not to forget her, the woodworker captures these memories in beautiful carvings out of the wood he collects.
Pine is a story-driven game focused on accessible, engaging interactions that pull you into the woodworker’s experience. Charming puzzles and mini-games celebrate the happy memories of their time together while deliberate chores underscore his challenges with moving on.
As you help the woodworker complete his daily routine, the simple chores you’ll guide him through are interrupted by reminders of his late wife. In these endearing memories you’ll relive their happiest moments together, playing games and building a life with each other.
The woodworker’s carvings are beloved mementos he captures from his memories. Pine’s unique carving mechanic lets you create the carvings with the woodworker’s hands, each a promise that his lost love will be remembered.
Classic hand-drawn animation, a beautiful setting, an evocative score and immersive environmental sound effects bring Pine’s story to life.
Tom has been a professional illustrator for over a decade, previously working for Nickelodeon and Scholastic, and a published children’s book illustrator and author. His Instagram audience and their love for the woodworker are a large part of the inspiration for bringing Pine to life.
Najati’s been programming since he was a kid. In his previous professional life he’s done embedded systems programming, full stack application development, and managed engineering departments. He’s also been a hobbyist game dev for as long as he’s been able to type.

Wake up -> Daily chores -> Think of me wifey -> Carve a tribute to wife -> Sleep. This game summarized. Like, I get it, they want us to be in his shoes, life is monochrome without my other half, it's a cliche. But most games, at least the ones I played so far these repetitive moments are inserted into the middle of the game only for like 2 or 3 loops, then after followed by a number of more sped up loops that play automatically, and that's usually it for this mechanic. We can easily understand the message, it served its purpose. But in this game the routine, the menial work is the majority of the playtime, and it's just boring to watch this clinically depressed guy performing minimum activity required to continue his life without a single line of dialogue. So after doing the same thing over and over and over again, our guy eventually moves on, and that's the ending, as you can easily guess. Good for him. But unfortunately my mind also had already moved on from this game when I started the 5th day of the same repeated tasks. A whole sawbuck for this? Noway. Last Day of June, When The Past Was Around, A Space for the Unbound, pick something else. This should be priced at ~$3 or fr…3 found this helpful
just a small note that made me install and launch this game to play: i lost my grandma on 6/6/2026 and i was the one who received the call from the hospital. my grandpa told me these words when we talked about it: "where there is life, there is death. don't be sad about what happened, be happy and celebrate the life that was given and had been lived. even though the end was bad but at least the suffering has ended." for a whole month, i've been living in this in and out state just like the woodworker in this story... holding onto memories towards the end. after playing this game, i've learnt to let those memories 'burn' and to accept that that was her end. i do not have control over what happened, but i have control of what i can make happen for myself (:3 found this helpful
It’s a story about loss. The game is slow and repetitive to sort of emulate the emotions of the person going through it. I actually enjoy this part and think its brilliant. The reason I don’t recommend it because I didn’t really like the ending and the story in general. I think they could do more. The reason I play games is because you can do crazy stuff. If they add some sort of a twist I might have enjoyed it more. I also did not experience a huge loss to that extent so one can say I didn’t get it.1 found this helpful
I lost my father this year to cancer. I'll miss you, Dad. No words need to be said. We all have to keep moving forward.
Short and sweet It touches the heart and soul.
