About Planet Barren Objective

You were a space explorer employed by the emperor to research uncharted regions of the empire. Sadly, while orbiting a seemingly barren planet, you were ambushed. You soon find yourself landed and trapped on this planet. In order to escape, you must defend yourself and extract, explore, and build your way out. Be careful, as there may be both friends and foes around you, as well as anomalies to explore and dangers to avoid.

Build
You have the ability to construct a variety of structures and technologies, including solar panels, turrets, computers, miners, and habitats, to help you achieve your goals. By utilizing a computer, you can unlock even more possibilities for building and growth, giving you the best chance at reaching your objectives.

Fight
With your fusion glove, you can take on the hordes of enemies that come your way. Remember to upgrade your skills on a computer to gain new powers and increase your chances of survival. You also have turrets and allies to help you in your fight for survival.

Explore Above
Construct a space drone launcher and launch a drone into orbit. By building a control room, you can upgrade and control the drone as it travels through space. With a variety of encounters and missions to complete, there is much to explore and discover in the vastness of space.

Explore Below
Beneath the surface of this planet lies a world of secrets and dangers. With a drill machine, you can provide resources and make your way underground. However, be warned that your fusion glove will be of no use here. You will have to rely on melee combat and exclusive abilities to survive in this underground realm.

Escape
Once you have built a strong defense and amassed enough resources, you can construct a rocket, stacker, and booster to create your means of escape. Defend yourself against enemies trying to stop you from leaving. It may be a slim chance, but it is your only hope of returning to civilization.
I’m so disappointed. I keep pressing the space bar on my keyboard, but I’m still on Earth.
Embark on a journey of building, battling, and exploration both above and below in this 2D pixel-art side-scrolling adventure, where an unending horde of adversaries relentlessly pursues you. Upon launching the game, its graphics and sound evoke memories of the classic Buck Rogers Countdown to Doomsday on the Sega Mega Drive. Your objective is to combat enemies, fortify yourself, enhance skills, survey the planet, and construct various objects like turrets, solar panels, habitats, and miners, all through a computer interface. Vanquished foes drop essential resources vital for progression and construction. Navigating the game proves challenging due to perplexing controls, absence of a tutorial, and limited explanations. However, the steep learning curve ultimately pays off for those willing to invest time in understanding the intricate mechanics. It's a game that's tough to master, with a gradual difficulty increase as you prolong your playtime. After numerous deaths and restarts, certain strategies become evident. Begin by seizing an enemy base and establishing your initial compu…

This is a really fun game. Like the other reviewers already mentioned, it's very difficult at the beginning because you don't know what to do, but that's what I liked about it. Essentially I had to start a game, research something in the computer, figure out how to place it, see what it did, die, repeat. Finally when I figured out which research I needed to make a base, I died some more. But then I didn't die. I built more, and more, and then found out there's a whole sub game with deliveries and starting a company and I'm still on the first planet. SO MUCH FUN.

5/10 A survival/building/shooter 2D game in 8bit space setting. Good: - there is a relatively complex system of buildings and upgrades of your abilities - the basic gameplay somewhat resembles Terraria, Minecraft, Don't Starve in the sense that you kill enemies to gather several types of mats, to use them to craft a base and defend it - you can fly into space and go underground where some mechanics change So-so: - the graphics are 8 bit, with big pixels. The animations look okay-ish. Sound is from the 80s era and fits the theme. The problem is however with huge pixelated fonts. The words take a lot of screen space, yet since each letter is so large almost everything is abbreviated. E.g. the names of each resource. This makes the game unnecessarily difficult to comprehend Bad: - there is no tutorial or onboarding whatsoever. You just appear in the level, with abbreviated instructions of commands in the top-left corner, where keyboard keys are mixed with controller keys. While you are still reading through this mess, enemies start attacking you. You can read the game's description on the Steam page to get some idea about the controls but that's just lazy game development. It would…

This little indie game's a real hidden gem. You'll suck at first - there's no handholding, controls aren't intuitive and UI a little subpar - but once you get the hang of it, it's quite awesome. Addictive. Planet Barren Objective has a steep learning curve (could benefit from improved UI or tute) but it's worth it. It's a real gem, much bigger than it looks at first glance, and gets better as you play. For more niche curation, follow me at: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/27440015-CSH-Picone/
