Power Fantasy

Fun little game, great for a quick playthrough if you only have a few minutes but can fill hours of time if you have it.

I wish there was a "meh" rating. For a game called "Power Fantasy", there's a distinct lack of power gain. I tried each of the starter characters and couldn't make it past the 2nd stage because the enemy scaling outpaces the player towards the end of the first stage. Sure I get that you're supposed to buy upgrades and invest talent points but you only get one weapon. Vampire Survivors lets you get 6 which offsets the lack of meta upgrades and enemy scaling in the early game. I don't feel like grinding when I can barely take out the first elite that spawns despite leveling up several times. It also doesn't help that useful upgrades have a pretty significant penalty to them. This would make sense if you could have multiple weapons, but you don't. Aside from the scaling issues, the UI ignores mouse input half the time so you need to scroll down with the keyboard to select an upgrade. There should also be a delay when the level up window appears before allowing selection with "E" because I would try to open a chest just to level up and instantly select some upgrade.

this game is so unsatisfying to play. ive played a lot games of this genre, and im mainly looking at 3 things: 1. how it feels to play 2, how it looks when you got your upgrades 3. how well it can scale. for the first one, all characters pretty much the same, without identity, and have movement speed of a snail. to compensate you have a talent to increase a movespeed by percantage on gold pickup aka building combo up to 10, and its pretty mandatory to use. so basically everything you do is running around collecting gold to kill mobs somewhat fast. and if you dont do it, you end up without good enough damage for bosses. i mean, you can kill them anyway, they pretty much dont do anything, but itll take forever. at my very first run i turned on every challenge and forgot to turn it off. i wated like 10 minuted running around first boss waiting for it to die. ofcourse its not what you should except but anyway - expect to deal 0 damage if you dont mainly invest into single target. for the second, after playing the very first ten minutes, i set my effects to 0 because its impossible to see anything. its not effects - its complete screen clutter. and adding to the ending of first point -…

Solidly fun roguelite, but what really seals the deal is that it's free and the DLC is so reasonably-priced (and can be skipped entirely if you like). I bought the DLC because it was like three bucks and I got a lot of fun out of the game before buying it and felt like I owed the dev something and three bucks is a perfectly reasonable amount. There are nits to pick and quibbles to quibble but for a free-to-play game with optional cheap DLC? Easy recommend. Well done to the dev team.
