Very mixed review on this one. Game seems to be inspired and taking notes from Cry of Fear and Afraid of Monsters. Thus surprisingly game is being ran on GZDoom engine which does deliver some Doom-ish experience with the whole gameplay with aesthetics borrowed from other horror games as I just mentioned. First things first, you're Isaac. Main protagonist who suffers mental issues because of his doctor tormenting him inside a lab (supposedly) and you're on your way to fight through hordes of abysmally and VERY annoying creatures to simply escape and choose to spare your mentor who abused you or spare him for sh*ts and giggles. Gameplay is simple and straight forward, you explore to survive by finding weapons, ammunition and medicine throughout the game. Now mind you, there are the happy pills that is mentioned in the game that supposedly don't make Isaac happy about and you'd think you would skip on them and use bandages for instance but apparently there are 3 endings than other horror games would offer in diverse example. Here however? It's very dull and boring making less effort on your action on what you do thus if the game is suppose to give you hints there's barely any as mos…1 found this helpful
Gameplay is very straightforward and easy to understand, I barely got stuck or confused while figuring out where to go next. I only played a little (I got to the subway tunnel) and I think its a pretty easy game so far. Some of the enemies are fast and jump out of nowhere, which is scary and fun. The story is interesting. I also like the simple graphics. What I dislike about this game is the fact that it's very dark. I understand that it's on purpose, but I didn't find it scary, just annoying. It was the reason why I turned it off. My eyelids are hurting from how much squinting I was just doing. I wish it was adjustable, messing around with the settings just makes the screen look foggy or grey. Of course, I have to mention how similar it is to Cry of Fear. Cof is my favorite horror game, and i think it's really creepy/sad/disturbing, especially the first playthrough. Clearly, Project Crypt is taking direct inspiration from it, which is what got me into this game. I'd like to compare these two. So while the dark and suspenseful atmosphere works well in cof, in this game just doesn't work imo. The only time I felt scared was when I got jumpscared. I don't think Project Crypt is lik…
could not play the game because of game breaking bugs and there are no fixes listed online. the experience i did have was very enjoyable but very unoriginal and very unpolished and poorly written mess. combat was bad. story was atrociously bad. atmosphere is great only because its coppying cry of fear. and i played it for that and i got that so i have no complaints.
cry of fear but doom engine
This is a very good game
Recommend this to anyone that want a Cry of Fear experience that is also not like Cry of Fear
