About Project XLOWS - Keyboard Apocalypse TM

Project XLOWS: Keyboard Apocalypse is a typing game in 3D world space sharing many features similar to rpg elements. Players can use skills, and a variety of selection of characters. This project is made by a single developer with the main focus of gameplay. As the project is currently in an early phase, more updates will be released based on players feedback. Players can expect to jump into the world and start playing as their favorite character.

Backstory:
Monsters have appeared from the underground, and have created a war zone. countless armies got together to seal the entrance, but none has been successful. If this continues, the whole planet will be engulfed in darkness.

Game-play:
Type your way to victory. Type various skill names ("jump left", "teleport", "launch fireball") and press enter to activate the skill. A list of skills can be found on top left screen under "Commands" title. Enter a specific series of sentences to win. Each sentence will be more difficult than the previous. Watch-out for the endless monsters that appear and prevent you from accomplishing your mission. Use your skills to make enough time to type the main quest lines.

My eyes literally hurt after looking at the graphics of this disaster. "Project XLOWS - Keyboard Apocalypse TM" is a typing tutorial, and like all of these "edutainment" games, it's not making education better, but it does make gaming worse. What do you do in the game? It plays almost like an old school text adventure, but typing the commands is time limited (you need to decide your action then type it before the eyeball eats you or whatever else is going on in the game). The "game" here is of a pretty low technical standard. The implementation is basic minimum effort stuff, more like a weekend project rather than a serious, professionally made product... and it's bad even compared to most amateur made games. An experimental piece... and the experiment is "Can I spend on Steam Direct and then call myself a game dev?" While that $100 spend on Steam Direct probably made the developers feel good about themselves, we have to ask why this kind of thing is good for gamers. It isn't. The graphics here are particularly awful, low poly amateur graphics so bad that if you did a 3D modeling course and turned these in for your grade, you wouldn't just fail, you'd be expelled and they…

2/10 A speed typing game with stub gfx/audio. Good: - free So-so: - it has some basic kind of combat/RPG system though it's hard to figure it out because of the messy UI - music is kinda okay (it's stock tracks from Unity sci-fi demo) though not sure they fit the setting as the game seems to be fantasy themed? Bad: - there are 4-5 minigames all of which involve speed typing. The first has you typing commands like "launch fireball", "move left". This reminded me old MUDs from the early 1990s. I mean, that's, like, a terrible control mode for even an indie RPG nowadays, cmon. Instead, the game should obviously have on-screen buttons, keyboard shortcuts etc - in the other minigame you type in worlds fast as they move towards you. This reminded me an NSFW game "SEXTS" which was kinda fun to play at least for 5-15 mins since the words were sexy and there were cute images as a reward. Here it's random words and it's simply meaningless. - in another you have trivia-like multiple choice questions but have to type the full reply, not just its number or A-B-C - in another you type in whole sentences (it's a string equality comparison, so it's case-sensitive and needs the punctuation to be…

More fun than I expected! Kind of like Mavis Beacon Typing combined with an actual adventure game. The levels are quite different from one another, giving the game more surprises than you might expect from such a small project. There's a lot here that could be expanded, I'll check back from time to time.

Leaving recommendation as it is free and maybe will work correctly for others. Clearly a single developer who put time into this basic gameplay and I like being able to support that idea. However I played the tutorial and then it shows that i won. The details of my win cover the three menu options to go any farther in the game and i have to Alt + F4 out of the game. Wanted to support the developer and be able to leave a decent review but after playing twice and having to quit as soon as i complete the level with no way to move past the tutorial i can't say much else other then... I tried. Good luck. Maybe it's my ultra wide screen making the menu buttons covered?

I may be biased because I know the developer, but this game is really fun and has a lot of potential! Give it a shot if you want to improve your typing and brain at the same time.
