About ProtoDungeon: Episode II
ProtoDungeon: Episode II is a short, top-down exploration adventure game set in a strange graveyard. Explore, solve puzzles, and find your way out!Still trapped in your nightmares, you must find your way through the graveyard and catacombs to the strangely familiar chapel. Seek the fragments of the chapel seal to unlock it. Use the block-creating ability of the starlight ring to solve puzzles and explore the deepest places. Is this all real, or is it in your mind? Can you reunite the fragments of the chapel seal and make it once again into the oddly familiar chapel? Will you escape this time? You have no map, no compass, no quest log. The game won't tell you what your next step is. It's up to you to find your way out! ProtoDungeon takes familiar retro inspiration from Game Boy games, but also from old point-and-click adventures in its philosophy of design. Look around, explore, even take notes!Features
- Puzzles designed around a single ability: a ring that makes blocks!
- Ring upgrades to help you explore further
- A weird gravekeeper to talk to
- A hidden challenge room

A truly challenging puzzler! On the surface, the mechanics and this episode's main 'gimmick' seem simple, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how deeply you are challenged to engage with it. The game doesn't hold your hand, so in the beginning I felt a little lost, until I slowly started putting things together. You get cryptic hints, and some rooms 'trap' you inside until you figure out how to escape. So go in with an open mind and the spirit of adventure, and you will find a very fulfilling experience! I can't wait for Episode 3!2 found this helpful
More of the same, with a small notch difficulty increase
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ Similar playtime as the first episode, but with a different ability and better level design. Happy to see no bugs this time. Recommended if you have played the 1st episode. The saga continues... and I will be here for part 3 :)1 found this helpful
Second part of this mini-series is an excellent evolution. Instead of swap mechanic, you know possess block spawning mechanic, which might sound basic, but is surprisingly deep and leads to some really witty puzzles. The GBC style and atmosphere are retained from the first episode, though the environment changes from castle to graveyard. It still a bite-sized adventure, but it took me more twice as long as the predecessor (a little under 1 hour). Again, I'm really looking forward to the third episode and the full adventure, there is a ton of potential here!1 found this helpful
I was profoundly puzzled! Excellent brain teasers, enjoyable gameplay, and intriguing mystery. I did Not find the hidden puzzle room. I'll have to give it another go!1 found this helpful
A glitch kept me from completing the game, the glitch persisted even after quitting and reloading the program. I had a similar glitch in the first episode, but luckily that one was at the beginning of the game.
Similar to Episode I, II leaves you with little information but space for exploration. Again you get one item, this time a magical ring that conjures blocks you have to work with. While rooms reset in Episode I, in II they stay, and with them, their objects. Thinking more than just inside your comfy box was trickier than in the first, took me longer accordingly. Though a bit of a pity there were no achievements this time, specifically sought out the secret before finishing this time ;-) Aside from this, it was also an upgrade visually compared to 1. Though I must say I think the "rougher" style is more to my liking, this certainly did not disappoint either! Still looking forward to Episode 3 and The Waking Cloak!
