Qazaq: Son of the Sun

Alright. [i]Qazaq: Son of the Sun[/i] is done and dusted. I can't say I'm well versed in Kazakhstan folklore, or really anything related to Kazakhstan overall outside of tidbits here and there. And while the devs are careful to let the player know that this is not an exact interpretation of Kazakhstan lore, I think there is enough there to be of interest. Instead, I would like to focus a bit on the similarities in folklore shared between people with no obvious connections across the world. Much of what is presented in this game does feel familiar because of the things it shares with First Nations people's lore, lore from South America, and I would imagine from various other far-flung places. When I first saw this game, I thought it looked visually really nice and that I had to play it one day. I still remember when it used to cost money, but as soon as it became free, I immediately added it to my library. It is now June 2026, and I only have 3 days off for the rest of the month, so starting a massive game makes no sense right now. Because of that, the time felt right to try out some Indie game. As I was browsing through my large backlog of free Indie titles, I came across Qazaq and decided to give it a go. As the tags suggest, it is mostly a Walking Simulator, but to me, it felt almost like a Doom clone, even though nobody actually kills you there. The game is quite simple, and you won't get lost thanks to your little stone that guides you to the next locations. When you activate these locations using your fire power, they trigger dialogue between the hero and the villain. The game features a beautiful color palette and funny easter eggs that are hard to miss. However, there is one downside, and that is the mouse sensitivity. I don't know if something was wrong with my mouse, but I had to increase my DPI because the aiming felt quite choppy. I really enjoyed the gam…

The narration and the puzzles are the only things good in this game. Negative aspects: - The character moves to slowly even if you run - You have no map to see where you have already been, so you can maybe need to do all the map one more time to search for a missing puzzle

Media which opens doors to other cultures is always welcome, especially with a price tag of FREE. Walk around, light some basic torch puzzles all while listening to Kazahk history for roughly 90 minutes. I assume this was created by a solo dev, so huge props to you for putting this out there! You get 11 achievements from this experience, and if you are doing A-Z challenges, you now get a game starting with Q!
