Oneshot is a top-down adventure made with RPGMaker engine although it doesn't look like a RPGMaker game because it uses mostly custom original assets. So not graphically impressive but interesting art design with some nifty special effects. The gameplay is mostly exploring, talking and solving puzzles; there is no combat. The game was intriguing overall and sometimes challenging. Heck, I was stuck in the first room. I was also stuck because I had a program automatically changing wallpapers on my computer. So keep that in mind and that a few puzzles require thinking "outside the box". For me, the originality of those puzzles was a strength. There was also a very cool surprise reveal when you encountered your first talking person that made the proceedings way more personal. The writing was good, but item descriptions were too brief, and I wish I could have become more emotionally invested. It was easy to get get lost while exploring, but there was that Travel button to important places you had been which I appreciated. At the end, I found Oneshot good, even very good, and I give it points for originality and storytelling, but I was also a bit disappointed, as if something was missi…

After finally playing it, I can see why many people praise this game. The story is indeed very heart-felt, Niko is a genuinely well-written character that I felt really attached to by the end of the game - making the final choice all the more difficult. I can also say that the art style is lovely, and the world-building is sufficient enough to make the main conflict of the game believable. Although not as expansive due to the short run time, I think the game is a nice and comfortable experience that doesn't waste too much of my time, which I as a busy person always appreciate. Overall, would definitely recommend to any person who loves indie games.
