Quest of Wizard is a retro-inspired action platformer created by Alexey Suslin and brought to Steam by WhisperGames. It is a game that wears its simplicity as a badge of honor, presenting a straightforward journey through trap-laden stages, secret-filled corridors, and boss battles that punctuate each area. At its heart, it is a celebration of classic side-scrolling design, where precise jumps, quick reflexes, and a bit of patience are the keys to progress. Rather than overwhelming players with systems or heavy story beats, the game opts for a lean structure built around levels that can be tackled in quick sessions, making it approachable while still demanding. The structure is built around an overworld map that lets you select individual stages, giving the experience an almost arcade-like rhythm. It's a good little game that is initially very engaging because of the way it builds on old recipes, it feels very similar to a 16bit amiga game and at the same time it offers a nice challenge with level memorization. But it overstays its welcome a bit, toward the end the levels start repeating themselves and the upgrade system, in the end doesn't bring anything to the game. The game would have been better if it was shorter. At least it's cheap. For this price I wasn't expecting to be THAT good! At first I wasnt a fan of the artstyle but after a while I enjoyed it, lots of effort was put into it. And, lots of effort was put in the gameplay: spells are balanced, diverse enemies, well-thought platforming, interesting boss fights at the end of each area, difficulty is a bit punishing but it's the core mechanic of all souls game which makes them so entertaining. Will buy other games from this dev.
felt a little wonky but i had fun so far
