Let's start by saying that the fact this game isn't popular and widely played is a blasphemy. With that being said, I consider this game almost a masterpiece. "Retooled" is an amazing indie FPS that encourages (almost forces) you to use all your different abilities and guns to survive. This game isn't easy and if you play however you want, you're going to die badly. Every weapon has its own functionality, and as you progress, you begin to find synergies between guns and abilities, discovering useful strategies / tactics. Additionally, every enemy has its own weaknesses, which further incentivizes the use of different weapons. There are two ways to gather resources: picking them up scattered throughout the arena or actively recovering them, similar to Doom Eternal's chainsaw / glory kills. Some weapons increase the probability of enemies dropping either health or armor pickups. Additionally, you can replenish plasma ammo by continuously firing the minigun and staying on the move, which brings me to bunnyhopping. Nice game, can be tough and takes a while to get the flow, but very good. Lots of options (controls, game and video options) and great performance. Some very interesting mechanics and synergies between weapons and equipment. Movement is key, not just for dodging attacks but also to recharge energy which powers the most useful weapons. It has a tough learning curve at first as so many different mechanics are thrown at you, even down to different weapons acquiring recharges and ammo in different ways. If you don't like bunny hopping, you will struggle with this, the base movement speed is intentionally slow. This requires the use of dashes, hops, rocket jumps and even melee which also boosts you forward slightly. Criminally overlooked game judging by the discussions and complete lack of guides. A real shame.

This game is a lot of fun! It's a fast-paced FPS with a nice selection of weapons to choose from, a rail gun and rocket launcher to name just two. The movement of your character is nice and fluid, a good variation of maps/arenas to play on, and some difficult enemies that will attack you from all angles and ranges. Staying on the move is key to survival, as is using all the weapons you have available, including a shield if you need to avoid taking too much damage for a short time. Mini-bosses also appear in the maps/arenas, these can deal some serious damage so taking them out quickly is advisable. Bunny hop heaven!

decent aim trainer. enemies are fast and precise even on the easiest difficulty, your movement is very floaty yet very responsive and your hitbox is very large. bunnyhoping doesn't work like quake games (not cpm nor vq3) at all, it's just timing jumps and +forward. this game is mostly 'movement first, shoot second' type of game. i like the execution of each weapons gives you certain drops like modern doom.

This game has become very well polished since my initial playthrough, and the many additions added bring it up several notches. Admittedly the melee helps you become VERY aggressive.

TLDR: Movement shooter with nice gameplay but limited level & enemy design. ————————————————————————————————————————– Nice movement shooter with tracking aim as the first class citizen, since the weapons with the highest uptime are the fast-firing automatics. Each weapon felt reasonably distinct and useful in some way. The gameplay feels reasonably good and polished. Pretty nice UI, nice sounds, sufficiently good animations. Your movement is pretty nice. You can get to decently fast speeds, but with limited air accel, BUT you have a dash that redirects your velocity (e.g., Diabotical et al.). Tracking feels pretty comfy since the movement acceleration of you and enemies is pretty soft. This game does streamline the ammo mechanics compared to other games in this genre by forgoing ammo pickups and having regenerating ammo instead. You still feel reasonably encouraged to swap around your weapons despite technically infinite ammo since the regeneration is slow and there's some incentive to swap to other weapons to speed up the regeneration of others.
