About RuneTech

Early Access Notes (Updated):

Due to some great player feedback the early access now includes the first level up to but not including the boss fight at the end. Story elements are not currently included in the game but will be added within the near future as the voice acting gets completed for it. In the mean time we have included helpful hint buttons throughout the first level to guide players through the process of finding their way through the level and solving the puzzles within it. We would like to express our extreme gratitude to everyone that has been helping with valuable feedback so far in helping us make this game great. We look forward to continuing to work with our community for the future of the game.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift
So this developer asked me to remove my review because it was in Early Access and it was free at the time. They were working to improve the experience and just needed time. Against my better judgment, I did so, mostly because the Oculus Rift was not officially supported at that time. Over 2 years later, I see there have been no updates. Gameplay is terrible. You're supposed to draw these runes, except it fails more times than not. The graphics are poor, game is unoptimized, the VR interactions are terrible. The gameplay is boring & repetitive. Now they are charging $5 for this. You'd have to pay me to play this game again. At least it now officially supports the Oculus Rift ,,, somehow. You can read how unprofessional these devs are in the comments for this review. Rate 2.5/10. Do NOT buy.

RuneTech is a free Early Access adventure game. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. You can change the locomotion method. Has instructions and tutorial, but the tutorial is hard. Single player only. You have to finish the tutorial to unlock the play portal. Tutorial has parts that have you thrown balls into hoops, make sure you have plenty of room to your ceiling ( i don't, i have a ceiling fan with a lighbulb in my play space). You can set the difficulty to easy to have the spells instant draw. Might work with Index and Quest 3 via Steam Link somewhat, casting require the Vive's large touchpad to draw on, the Index touch pad don't work like that. Other controls worked on the Index. Try it only with HTC Vive, you might like it.

I was told to try out this game by some random guy who walked into where I worked, I kid you not. I am glad he did however. Let's get the Cons out of the way. Cons: No actual levels Some spells as too many modes Thrown spells seem to not carry much momentum Pros: Amazing idea Controls are easy to understand There is so much potential for levels, story, ect. A ton of variablity in spells Requires use of certain spells (There's no one trump all spell) This is simply a great game and I look forward to playing every single level that comes out of it. My only problem that I would see a problem for some people is when you need to use a crystal, you need to hold it down for a while. Otherwise, keep up the good work!

Gave this game a shot, despite some bad reviews about the casting system, and I am very glad I did! Before i started the tutorial i practiced the rune drawing in the lobby by the big wall that shows you how to do them, and after that never once had a problem drawing a spell. Onto pro's and cons. Cons: 1: I am very short, and the game didn't seem to have a way to take this into account, but i was still able to do everything. 2: Having to hold in the shield and invisibility crystals while moving was hard, but not un-doable 3: Voice acting cuts out half way through the tutorial. I know this is an Early Access, but that seems like an important thing to have in. Pros: 1: Amazing concept, I love being able to draw arcane runes in the air and cast magic! 2: The magic casting system seems very intuitive. Between having the rune in front of you to trace, and the letters above it for you to make sure you are getting your directions right it's hard to mess up. Only problem is sometimes i'm not so good at drawing a straight line, but it seems to mostly take acount for that, and that's on me not the game. 3: I played around with all the movement modes in the lobby and they are great! Great Idea, Love the concept of drawing out spells. However it took me 38 mintues to get through to level four in the tutorial. Wich could elaborate more on the optimal way to draw out the spells. It took me about 15 mintues to draw the fire rune correctly, I had been drawing the rune backwards the whole time by accident. after another 15 mintues on the electricity rune I gave up because I kept redrawing the rune and nothing every happend. its not a very good game but I'd recomend trying it out anyway, just to get a feel for what drawing speels is like. Becasue by the end I got the fire rune down and it was fun.

This game seems VERY promising. I have been checking back for a while with no updates but it has been my favorite VR game so far!
