Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is praised by players as an exceptional isometric RPG with fantastic writing, diverse character builds, and meaningful choices that genuinely impact the story, though it suffers from some 2001-era jank and an occasionally rough early game that requires patience and frequent saving. Most players find it accessible and engaging even for those unfamiliar with older CRPGs, though a small number report technical compatibility issues with audio and graphics on certain systems.
Fantastic story, great writing, enjoyable combat/dungeons/overworld/loot/rpg mechanics. So many build possibilities and legitimate choices that change the outcome of stories both big and small. The start of the game can feel rough and RNG dependent, but stick it out (read as: save often, enjoy a little grinding) and eventually you'll become a force to be reckoned with. Mild 2001 game jank abound, but it's the game that Fallout 2 wishes it was.2 found this helpful

Something about this game and my computer do not work. I have tried several times and various mods to get it to work without success. Audio desync, graphics completely breaking. Happens within a few hours of playing. (Long enough to get baited into thinking it will work, short enough to not completely waste my time.) As far as I know, this is not an occurring issue for others... so take my poor experience for a grain of salt that it is.1 found this helpful
A great and wonderful game! So many hours were spent playing it during my school days, and it still gives me such relaxing, positive vibes. The RPG variety and dialogues, the music, and the atmosphere are all so nice. The storyline isn’t too complicated, but sometimes the game can surprise you with quite sophisticated thoughts, Highly recommended for people who love old games!1 found this helpful
