There's some primal part of the human brain that makes us want to explore. If you scrolled far enough down to read this, you've already seen what this game looks like and might be considering it anyway. If that's you, then you will probably at least get a kick out of trying it. It won't blow your mind. It won't stun you visually. It won't wow you with its depth. It's exactly what you think it is, nothing more. But if you are thinking of buying it, then I won't tell you not to, because you are exactly the kind of person this game was made for.

I couldnt get into it. it looks like there's some interesting late game things, but i wasnt hooked in my first hour experience. lots of boring islands inside a boring sea.

Salt is an open-world exploration adventure developed and published by Lavaboots Studios, built around the simple but appealing idea of setting sail into an enormous unknown ocean. Instead of forcing players through a tightly controlled campaign, the game begins with basic resources on an island and gradually opens into a freeform journey. Once a raft is constructed, there is little stopping you from choosing a direction and sailing as far as curiosity takes you. That sense of independence defines the experience, making Salt feel less like a conventional survival game and more like a personal maritime expedition. Exploration is easily the strongest part of the game. The world is procedurally generated and effectively limitless, producing islands that can contain resources, wildlife, pirates, merchants, ancient ruins, cultists, mysterious locations, and other discoveries. Sailing toward a distant island creates a pleasant sense of anticipation because there is always the possibility of finding something worthwhile. The procedural nature inevitably results in repetition after enough time, but the freedom to determine your own route helps preserve the feeling that each voyage belongs…

Its simple, easy, and graphics are low res but the US is well organized and provides what you need; it does some clever things with the UI (like overloading hotkeys multiple times). I picked it up for under $4 and it was well worth it.

Old, but GOLD. If you're patient and live for the thrill of the seas with story and battles of all kinds, this game is for YOU. Traveling between islands for quests feels like a bit of a drag at times, but getting them done really makes this feel more accomplished. I will say it now, that this game is definitely a grind. Everything you do will feel lengthy, but it makes you appreciate all the work you've done in the end. Just an absolute cinematic experience. (FYI: Hardcore is my forte for fun. One life makes this more thrilling, but horrible when you actually die lol)
