About Sap: School Days

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Sap, a unique meditative single-player game about nurturing an ever-evolving ecology. Witness the wonder of a bizarre, expanding and collapsing environment that you control with strategic tile placements. Choose from biomes, mechanical elements, and a plethora of organisms to adorn your board, and marvel as surprising interactions unfold.

Experiment and explore layer upon layer of complex mechanics, unfolding new challenges and strategic avenues as you progress. Keep in mind, with each turn, you surrender control over your tiles - so think ahead and plan your layout carefully. Each turn you'll be offered 5 new tiles to select from, and with limited energy to pay for them per turn, you'll have to be strategic. The goal of sap is to explore, more than to win - but let the board fill up and it's game over! Try and balance the ecology to prevent system-wide collapse while seeing how many tiles you can discover!

Designed not to be obtuse, but to foster curiosity, Sap invites you to lose yourself in its unique ecosystem, stimulating your mind while soothing your senses. Venture into this extraordinary game, where strategy meets serenity, and every playthrough reveals something new!

The art looks great! pretty straightforward control, nothing crazy, I can just have it open on the side while doing my work (Don't tell my boss that)

Not 100% sure what I think about on this one, I've definitely played worse games and for free I cant complain, but it feels more of a thought experiment than anything, not much ever really crossed my mind while playing other than "well lets see if this does anything". If you have some time to kill its worth a look though. If you're looking for something similar but more fleshed out Loop Hero is what this game immediately reminded me of.

"Sap: School Days" is an unusual yet pointless "game" where you place tiles on a grid. Nothing, by the way, to do with schools at all. Various tile combinations create points and "evolve" the game environment as you throw things down to form and manipulate an "ecosystem". It's presented in a barebones and simple manner that might as well have been done as a web game, and the poor presentation and uninteresting premise would have been the leading causes for this failing here on Steam. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. On pric…
