About Shadows of Forbidden Gods
A strategy game in which you attempt to bring about the apocalypse, by moving covert agents through a complex fantasy world to accomplish a wide range of schemes, plots and rituals. You start the game by bribing guards and infiltrating minor farming communities and slowly build up your forces until you are bringing about ice ages, eradicating entire nations with plague, summoning volcanoes and commanding city-devouring snake-gods.
You play a set of agents and corrupted heroes against the forces of good, the rulers and heroes of humanity, lead by the Chosen One. They may be stronger than you, and could eliminate your agents with ease, but you have the advantage of secrecy, and humans are easily turned one against each other. Why fight a war against a unified empire when you could shatter in into civil war and clean up the pieces with orcish hordes?
Complex AIs power the forces of good, and you can, if the mood takes you, play on their minds. Rulers can be driven to gold-obsessed lunatics, who will cause their people to rise up in anger at the insane taxations, dukes can be tricked into turning on their Kings by a carefully placed personal item which implies a court scandal, heroes can be driven insane by the maddening tales read in The Laughing King's Tome and the shadow can corrupt your enemies to the point where they start funding your agents instead of their own people.
Designed as a very flexible apocalypse simulator, Shadows of Forbidden Gods allows you to mix and match your toolsets with unique agents and varied effects, with the human forces responding dynamtically, levelling up their heroes to face what they believe to be the major threats.

An amazing concept drowning beneath the waves of bad UI, nonexistent QOL, enormous feature bloat and mechanics as clear to see through as a brick wall. I've bashed my skull against this game some and I am aware that 90% of my dislike for it is likely my own inability to pick up and apply one of the many, many, MANY mechanics that all (seemingly?) have no synergy, or at least no satisfying synergy. Prepare yourself for pain if you try to learn new mechanics. Wanna pick up magic? Great, everyone else has it now too and is throwing rocks from a continent away at your necromancer. This would be fine I suppose, except the UI gives no way to locate these kinds of threats and no meaningful warning so you go "cool, magic!" and proceed to lose your most important piece because if I want to do anything besides cast a protection spell and recast it I'll immediately get red misted by an eldritch A-10 Warthog. Let's try influencing a major religion to our advantage! Okay cool, all neighboring religions now hate them and after two hours it feels like the effect provided is essentially the same as if I had just enshadowed the land manually. Deep Cult? Super atmosperic game where you take over the world by covert action and corruption.
I adore this game. It is a easy to pick up, highly customizable, turn based strategy game where you play the agents of a dark god trying to bring ruin to the world. It has a lot of depth and replayability with so many different gods and ways to play those gods. I can't stress how good this game is, just pick it up!
Fantastic Game!
A really excellent "play as the bad guys" game, with delightful complexity in how everything interacts. Turn based, which I really appreciate. A lot of ways to adjust the difficulty, with the base difficulty being "all of the stories are about the good guys winning, so you'd better have a good reason why this one is different"
