About Shadowveil: Legend of The Five Rings

You are the commander. Your role is to focus on the big picture, make the big decisions, and let your forces handle the execution of them. Make impactful decisions on how to guide the expedition's journey through the Shadowlands, who to bring, what cards to equip, what new paths to unlock and build your strategy to achieve your long-term goals.

Gather and equip both ability and item cards to your samurai, making them even stronger as you progress. Building powerful synergies/combinations between your party members will be crucial in determining the outcome of each battle.

Recruit new samurai, unlock new classes, level up and improve along different paths to grow your party stronger for each run. As your party grows in ability and size, you will be better equipped to face the dangers that lie deeper in the Shadowlands.

Deploy your scouts wisely to reveal the secrets of each path and determine the best route through the treacherous Shadowlands. Each path presents unique opportunities and challenges, offering greater rewards or more formidable adversaries. As you delve deeper, the surroundings become increasingly twisted, corrupt, and intricate.

See your glorious planning pay off as your samurai execute your strategies in battle, without the need for real-time micromanagement. Positioning, who you send into battle, and what abilities and items you equip will shape your party's ability to be victorious against the many enemies you face along your journey.

Legend of the Five Rings (L5R) is a shared gaming universe set in Rokugan, a rich fantasy setting inspired by the samurai cinema of Akira Kurosawa and the history and folklore of Japan, China, and other Asian nations. In Rokugan, shapeshifters, dragons, and gods walk beside mortals, and warring samurai clans clash for power and prestige, duel for love and revenge, and defend against the demonic invasion of the Shadowlands. Since the collectible card game debuted in 1995, L5R has been adapted into a Living Card Game, several tabletop roleplaying games, board games, novels, art books, and a graphic novel. Shadowveil: Legend of the Five Rings is the first-ever video game set in the realm of Rokugan.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's solid foundation with charming characters, cohesive atmosphere, and engaging mechanics that blend autobattler, tactical, and deckbuilding systems into a rewarding roguelite experience. However, the game is held back by significant technical issues including graphical bugs that obscure rewards and UI elements, problematic hitboxes during the prep phase, and design flaws like permanently missable buffs tied to side quests and repetitive boss encounters that limit variety throughout the campaign.

I really like the game. The music and gameplay suits my taste. But the bugs that come with it done me in. The first and most important bug is if you have just pick the game up, just remember to do side quests for each act before finishing the act. Else, the perma buffs are lost forever. The visual bug make me unable to choose the rewards after fights. And finally the hitbox for using skills/items in prep phase are so bad it discourage me from continue.

This game kinda has too many good ideas and not enough dedication to any of them. The problems --------------- * No idea why Deckbuilder is in the tags, there are no deckbuilding elements. You get random abilities that look like cards, but they're assigned skills that the characters use. There is no deck that you use or have any ability to shape. * The Roguelite elements are barely any better. The early game grind is really miserable, with progression points being so far apart that it took a long time for me to notice that there actually was some Roguelike gameplay. Most of the improvements that matter are locked behind resources you wont get in the early game and very few of those upgrades are persistent. Doing a full run and then losing to the boss fight at the end doesn't retain enough benefit to make the run worth the time. Items, abilities, and upgrades never carry over from runs, all you get are resources. * You can lock yourself out of things like side-quests and unlockable bonuses, and it's impossible to tell what act the side quests are found in until you actually stumble onto the side quest. * Voice acting is not good. With how few characters there are in this game, it…

Legend of the FIve Rings... I've been a big fan for 25 years. I have read the novels, played the ccg, telling stories around a rpg group... This setting deserve so much then a cheap auto-battler. Imagine a rpg like baldur with this setting! You are sitting on a rich universe. Shadowveil is meh! at best...

If you want it, get it on a sale. The concept is good, bit this games lacks variety very much. I got bored before finishing the first campaing (which consists of beating the same three bosses over and over again)

10 hours in and really enjoying it. It does take a few runs to get the hang of what everything means, but once you figure it out it is a fun game, with a good story elements and some fun synergies and mechanics to work through.
