Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

A lovely Metroidvania with charming characters, cool comic graphics and amazing music! I dont usually like Metroidvanias, but I really enjoy the Shantae games. Belly dance your way through the danger!

This is a flawed game that annoys me for very specific reasons but overall it's good. The transformations all feel distinct from one another, but this does make some of them extremely gimmicky and shallow mechanically. The last one in particular is so different from how any of the others control that the following level was warped around it in a really awkward way. The extra mission they added from the Kickstarter stretch goal feels stapled-on narratively but it's one of the better areas gameplay-wise. And the fact that this was 2 years late from its predicted release date feels lame, especially since the long wait was for a game that wasn't better than Pirate's Curse. Irrelevant now, but I still feel that disappointment a bit. Overall, banging music, solid if a bit simple level design, fun dungeons, great art style, hilarious and characterful writing, not a bad game at all. I just have personal beef with it.
