Shiro is a 2D precision platformer where you play as Holo, on a quest to rescue her twin sister Shiro from an evil witch. The game features over 25 levels filled with platforming challenges, unique events, mini-games, and combat. The core gameplay revolves around two types of symbols – green and red – that launch your character in specific directions. Green symbols send you in one of four cardinal directions, while red symbols add diagonals with rotating arrows, making timing crucial. There's a timer on each symbol, so you can't hesitate too long. The game also includes enemies, though combat is simple and largely optional – you can often dodge or jump past them. On the positive side, the pixel art style is charming and the soundtrack is pleasant. The platforming puzzles are satisfying to execute once you master them. The game is short, so the mechanics never overstay their welcome. On the downside, the story is minimal and forgettable. The game is also quite short, clocking in at around one to two hours. Overall, Shi…
"Shiro" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. Now, while this is primarily a platformer it does feature a lightweight "shoot 'em up" feature as well. That's even worse than the platformer part, and is kinda pointless. The game modes are basic reskins/kitbashes of the basic GameMaker Studio platformer/shooter templates, reskinned with a bit of lazy level design. The plot is forgettable, a mangled Russian -> English translation and a pointless and tiresome story about the developer pretending to be a little anime girl and having his sister abducted by a witch. Yawn. That just leaves the gameplay, and that's a dogs breakfast. The platforming genre is pretty much obsolete... just a tiny number of professionally developed platformers exist on PC and offer any real value or interest to gamers (Silksong, etc). This is nowhere near being as good as Hollow Knight or Silksong. It's easy to see why gamers ignored this in favor of modern,…

Cool short game (the best thing about this game was the mushroom biome), I wish the movement was smoother and a different ending though
