Sidewords

At this point, I've lost track of how long ago I got this game and how long I've played it. I mean, yes, Steam tells me a number of hours, but that's been spread out over almost every day for the last... two years? Maybe more? I've actually lost count. The reason for that is, this game is a great way to wind down at the end of the day, by way of a clever idea for the kind of puzzle that wouldn't be out of place in a newspaper-- and I mean that as a compliment. If you want to chill with some intelligent word-puzzles, then I can only sing this game's praises.

decent concept, iffy execution, scummy dev. silently hiked the price of one of their other games and when called out on it, immediately reached for the permaban button. ♥♥♥♥ off. this only has a single toggle for the way too loud audio. no music and they couldn't even normalize those few sound effects. windowed mode is resizable, the background can be moving, stopped or disabled and there are a few themes, darker too. no preview or pull-down menu, click to cycle through them one by one and see what's what. that's not how multiple options should be implemented. the first level tells you what to do and the pause menu has slightly more detailed instructions with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mobile tapping, hints revealing one word after another, and a [b]tutorial video opening a browser to play a video on youtube[/b]. ♥♥♥♥ off. reset is only available there because why have a convenient icon and hotkey to avoid clicking all the words one by one. settings can only be accessed from the main menu, 15 clicks away from a puzzle. 216 levels in 6 collections, everything is unlocked from the start, except the last level in each sub-pack and the final sub-pack per collection. grids with letters on the left and to…

Leaving a review since I saw it only had 30 which was kinda crazy to me. This game is very relaxing, simple puzzle game. You'll have, say 5 letters on the top and 5 on the left, and use a combination of them to fill spaces on the board until they are all filled. It's simple at first but gets more complicated as you go on. There's also a ton of puzzles to work your way through plus daily puzzles. It's cheap, fun, and a good way to kill time.

Shockingly tricky but utterly entertaining.

Good puzzle game, nothing out of the extraordinary but worth having if you want something quick to play for a round or two. The game mechanic is simple, you create words using letters from a top row and left row. The aim is to fill the box with words. The mechanic however doesn't really evolve from this point from what I can tell, so it really is just a game to play for 5-10 mins. I generally don't feel the urge to keep going after doing one board. I do wish it had achievements though (and I hate that I wish a game had achievements, but oh well).

If you've played other word games like Scrabble or Wordament, this game is worth checking out. Fill 2D grids by selecting letters from intersecting columns and rows. Most of the puzzles are reasonable, but some of the larger or "spicier" ones were incredibly challenging. You'd better know a lot of esoteric 3-letter words or you'll be saying several 4-letter ones. The dictionary of accepted words appears to match the UK Scrabble word list, but doesn't include all valid US Scrabble words. You may occasionally find a word that you think is valid that it won't accept. I only found one in 13 hours of play - "callout" - a valid US Scrabble word. The game also lacks some of the niceties of more well-polished games, like achievements, or the ability to run the game windowed. However, it has three new puzzles daily, so unlike many other puzzle games, you can pretty much play it forever.
