Skyward Bastion

Highly enjoyable Tower Deffense title. I was not highly enamoured by the demo (I could not get anything other than cannons), but sensed there was something there. This game really stretches my brain to get the right mix and positionig of towers - I'm gradually losing by less, which is the real appeal. Interesting upgrade paths. The only thing I don't like is the "spongy" mouse pointer.. A good value for money title that keeps drawing me back for thar one more try.

Right now, for the price, I would recommend. That being said, it is very barebones compared to other games in the same space, even for an Early Access title. Comparable titles I've played include Rogue Tower, Mineral Defense, and Crystal Guardians TD. I'll make comparisons to those. Towers: They're fine. Textbook selection of single target and aoe towers. Nothing fancy there. The cost increases with each you build. The targeting options are limited and I'd really like a "random" option or "boss". I'd also like a slow option that doesn't involve unlocking a tower and using specific upgrades on that tower. 2 of the towers are traps right now to unlock, the flamethrower and infernal, since they're only good against armored enemies, and the infernal is supposed to scale the longer it hits an enemy but I guess this is bugged right now. Meta Progression: This is where the game struggles the most right now. Any unlocks you get for the towers just give those upgrades a *chance* to appear. There are no permanent upgrades for the towers specifically. In the other mentioned titles, there was always something to make you feel stronger in subsequent runs.
