Better than "CRACKHEAD" still waiting for the sequel "METHHEAD" to come out5 found this helpful
SMACKHEAD is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. I'm not sure, but I think from the name of this, it was intended as a joke game or something. Strangely, despite the deplorably low quality, this is not an asset flip or anything like that, which I guess makes this one of the "victims" of the shovelware end of the store, having to compete with all the fake games from asset flip scammers. However, genuine intentions alone don't guarantee a decent gaming experience. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game assets are fairly mediocre/low quality, in some places they appear mismatched... Ultimately the quality of these assets, and thus the overall visual quality is lower than average, and low quality always makes for a less than optimal…2 found this helpful
SMACKHEAD is an unusual indie arcade platformer that fully embraces chaos, surrealism, and old-school frustration to create an experience that feels intentionally uncomfortable and strange. Developed and published by Displacement Studios, the game throws players into a bizarre dream world where survival depends on navigating dangerous stages, collecting clocks to extend remaining time, and locating portals before everything collapses into complete madness. It does not attempt to explain itself clearly or guide players gently through its mechanics. Instead, SMACKHEAD relies on confusion, sensory overload, and relentless pressure to create a surreal arcade experience that feels more like a playable nightmare than a conventional platformer. The gameplay centers around fast-paced movement through hazard-filled environments packed with traps, enemies, and strange visual effects. Players must constantly search for clocks scattered throughout each stage because time drains continuously, creating a permanent sense of urgency. This mechanic becomes the driving force behind the entire experience. Rather than slowly exploring levels or carefully planning routes, players are forced to move qu…1 found this helpful
SMACKHEAD is a frustrating and poorly executed game that tries too hard to be chaotic and ends up being nearly unplayable. The visuals are overwhelmingly distorted, the controls feel clunky and unreliable, and the lack of any real story or direction makes the experience shallow and repetitive. The sound design is loud and annoying, with no option to adjust it, and the overall gameplay feels more like a broken prototype than a finished product. Unless you enjoy headaches and confusion, SMACKHEAD is best avoided.1 found this helpful
Hard as hell for not reason at all. Can't even determine how to improve performance on a level as everything moves too fast or you die before you can analyze the screen. Seems like the game is running faster than it needs to be.
