Space Ape

Lucky me gets to write the first review for Space Ape, a free game that's been on Steam since 2014 but apparently never garnered enough interest for a review until now. Unfortunately it's understandable, too. This is just a basic 2D side scrolling "endless runner" where you click your mouse on the monkey and drag him around the screen collecting the bananas and avoiding the asteroids and things. This was built with Unity and looks to be a copy/flip of a mobile app game, hence the "click and drag" mechanic being analogous to swiping and dragging on an iPhone screen. The quality here matches the very shallow gameplay, the mouse pointer doesn't track perfectly 1:1 with the space chimpanzee, so controls are imprecise. The developer made this game completely free, which is commendable and shows dedication to the industry, but even for free, the quality here is just too low for me to recommend to anyone. Also, there's no bananas just floating around in the vacuum of space. So unrealistic.

Игра 'Space Ape' - это увлекательный космический симулятор, в котором вы управляете собственной флотилией и исследуете огромную галактику. Графика приятная, хотя и не самая передовая, но стилизация под мультяшную научную фантастику выглядит отлично. Главное достоинство игры - это ее глубокий и разнообразный геймплей. Здесь и исследование неизведанных планет с обнаружением ресурсов и аномалий, и сражения с враждебными флотами, и развитие собственной базы. Кастомизация кораблей и технологий позволяет создавать уникальные стратегии для каждой ситуации. Особо стоит отметить систему дипломатии. Взаимодействие с другими космическими цивилизациями добавляет глубины игровому процессу. Можно заключать союзы, торговать ресурсами или объявлять войну - выбор за вами. Конечно, игре не хватает некоторой полировки, и иногда интерфейс кажется немного перегруженным. Тем не менее, 'Space Ape' предлагает долгосрочный и увлекательный игровой опыт, который затянет вас на многие часы. Рекомендую всем любителям космических стратегий!
