Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II

[b]There are not enough horror games like this.[/b] I love the art, and the Twilight Syndrome inspired side-scrolling, and everything. This is a great example on how to take the Visual Novel and turn it into a Video Game.

Possibly worth it if you're a series fan and it's on sale/discount. That said, this game is visibly weaker than the first 2 that came before it. There's filler spirits to pad out the story and you're stuck in one location vs previous games. Side note: Instead of announcing a 4th game, the devs are remaking the first game which is concerning.

Although it's not as good as the previous two games, it's still an amazing experience, a lot of passion and love went into it, and you can tell they did that from the little animations and the CG art. For me, the biggest step down was the exploration, i did like the sidescrolling stuff, but the first person mode had more suspense, at least to me. I feel like they should've had a mix of old and new, and merged the two styles better, rather than sometimes having first person and mostly having 2D Twilight-Syndrome like gameplay. The ghost's lore was also super interesting, but the design of them sadly was a bit of a step down, some of them ended up looking a bit goofy, while others looked really good. All in all, if you love this series like i do, i really recommend it, it's more Spirit Hunter, the story is really gripping and the characters are all amazing, along with very compelling mysteries and ghost lore. I hope they make a spirit hunter 4 one day, i know i'll be waiting to get it!

just too repetitive and boring

_ Seeing Spirit Hunter changed to side-scroller format, I had my skepticism, I was so WRONG! Being able to explore the setting in a continuous manner does make me feel more invested in the world. They also trim most of the fat by blocking the paths that are not related to current case, and even offer fast travel. Seeing characters actually moving around makes me feel more connected to them than just pure CG. And it's not like they ditched the CG format, half of the game areas are still in beautiful CG. It's the best of both world! I hope they keep this format onwards. _ The story is full of twists but opens enough to figure it out for the first time, if you actually pay attention. It's very satisfying to get the choices right after first few times. _ The art is so beautiful, especially in the side-scroller segments, looks downright like an anime. Spirit Hunter: Death Mark 2 ties with the other two for me. They all excel for different reasons. I love them all equally.
