About Spirit of the North
Play as a red fox guided by a magical spirit across Iceland's rugged landscapes, solving environmental puzzles and uncovering the secrets of a lost civilization through wordless exploration and Nordic folklore. This atmospheric adventure stands out with its stunning visuals, complete absence of dialogue or narration, and emotionally resonant orchestral score that lets the breathtaking environments tell the story.

Spirit of the North is a single-player 3rd-person adventure game inspired by the breathtaking and mysterious landscapes of Iceland. The story takes root from various pieces of Nordic folklore.

Play as an ordinary red fox whose story becomes entwined with the guardian of the Northern Lights, a magical spirit fox. As you journey over the mountains and under red-stained skies, you’ll discover more about your companion and land left in ruin.

Uniquely designed to purposefully have no dialog or narration. Players must breathe in their surroundings to solve various puzzles and speculate the meaning of a lost ancient civilization.

This game tells a good story without using single word. There is no talking , there is no narrator, there is no texts… And yet it tells a good story . My only complaint is that this fox barks like a dog… Its a chill game that you will finish within few hours even doing 100% (took me about 5 to 6 hours , just played on deck offline and it didnt track time properly) . But its worth it , beatifull enviroments . Sometimes you need to look around and figure out what to do and where to go , game dosent hold your hand , but its part of its charm . Also works flawlessly on steamdeck 9/102 found this helpful
The Spirit of the North is a simple and casual game if you want to recharge your batteries. If you're not considering yourself as a sophisticated [strike]bone-deep elitist[/strike] gamer - you're gonna like this one. Enjoy playing as a barking, tail-wagging, uncontrollable fox. The visuals and the music are great. The world is atmospheric but lacking content, you can choose between several activities till the very end of the game. There are also glitches in the game. While doing some fox parkour stuff you can easily stuck in textures in a state of eternal falling
(an exploit for getting "Fox? Or flying Squirrel" achievement)
. Also don't try to drop Shaman Staff near Shaman Spirit that was already awaken, you won't be able to pick it up again.
I don't know if the authors intended it that way but there's a possibility to skip half of a Chapter 4 and jump to the Chapter 5 while doing fox parkour stuff on a castle walls.
The biggest downside is the inability to save your progress whenever you want, the game does auto-saves only when you finish a chapter (part?) or certain event's triggered. From the other hand the game gives…
On paper, Spirit of the North has everything it needs to be a relaxing exploration game with just enough mechanics to keep it interesting. In practice, it made me feel more frustrated than with many fast-paced action-packed "sweaty" games. I found this game to be quite bad at giving you hints on what to do next, or even at showing what the current general objective is. The environments are beautiful but they can get a bit disorientating - something I felt right from the first chapter, where I ended up essentially hugging the border of the level until I found the way forward. I think the "make everything mysterious and open to interpretation" dial was pushed too far. Multiple times, I got the feeling I was progressing almost by accident and I was left wondering what side content/"secrets" I had missed. Making matters worse, often, after one moves to the next area (sometimes by accident), there's no way to go back. The controls and some parts of level geometry are sufficiently clunky to make me doubt if I was moving forward and solving puzzles the right way, or accidentally cheesing through the game. You can't save anywhere you want, and there's no telling when the next checkpoint …
i love it. the fact that it was made in a basement is amazing. the high-tech quality is amazing and it is also very very very beautiful
