STAR WARS™: Rogue Squadron 3D

Unfortunately, impossible to play on modern hardware.

Absolute classic.

Its old, like really old (Surprised its only 27 years old), like it says: "Astonishing 3D details include real time lighting and special effects (explosions, smoke, engine glow, tracer fire and more)." which at the time was astonishing, but now it is almost required in modern games (and build in to some game engines), also it (if you can get it to run) is kinda fun (if you can learn the controls), and its cheap ($9.99), and its less than a gigabyte (~160 megabytes), so you don't need that much storage for it, if you want a Star Wars game, than is not by EA, this is one; wish there was a "like the game but there are better" review but I'm already leaning on the recommended side anyway, so I'm going with that.

this version just... sucks, I tried my best to map controls for pc, and turn left and right, and it only rotates the ship instead of turning. then I just decided to use my generic controller, which worked but... the game just doesn't feel right and it's still very hard to even aim

The original N64 title has its late 90s jank, but it's playable and enjoyable. This version... well, I just attempted a run of the 4th mission, on Corellia. The camera, as usual, was a menace, one I usually resolve by switching to first-person view. Problem: the camera goes into its own mode when attempting to attach tow cables to AT-ATs, as it should, but with this port the camera has a will of its own. It became desynced from my fighter and soon gave me an unhelpful view of the AT-ATs legs. This caused me to crash into those legs, twice. That was on top of the other bugs that had been piling up, such as the sound getting stuck on a loop (mixing the sound of a TIE being shot down with Chewbacca noises), and the fighters dancing around along their routes like bumblebees. And after my second death the game just froze up completely. The original Rogue Squadron is good, but this port is a janky mess. The one good - or perhaps just interesting - factor is that I can play this with a joystick. The game didn't recognize the trigger buttons on my XBox controllers, so I brought out my old joystick. I was certainly happy to give it some use - I'd only ever used this joystick for X-Wing A…
