Amazingly fun game and very affordable when on sale. In an age of AI, I'm drawn to these older games where real effort, creativity and ingenuity powered game design and production. The musical score is amazing as well, I love the soundtrack and the band behind it, Steam Powered Giraffe. Again, people dressing up as robots but singing with so much heart and meaning.
Great fun game
What used to be a free game in the shape of Steamworld Dig is now a tactical rpg. Having played the game on experienced from start to finish you can really appreciate the challenge the game brings forth and while fun, some of the missions do have some issues. For example, when it comes to the randomization of maps and stuff, you may bring a certain team and then the game blocks you with impossible shots, blocked off paths to destroy important enemies or objects and then you have to reset the mission to adapt and can get penalized with your currency, still I can count with one hand the amount of times that happened. Amazing characters, fun weapons to experiment with and for certain it's a very colorful game, never allowing itself to grow dull and uninteresting wether it's visually or in character design. A very fun game which allows for more playing hours than one thought there would be.
This is the 4th time I've played through this game. The whole series is great but this is probably my favorite.
Another Steamworld game another excellent title. Haven't been disappointed with any of them I've played and this one is no exception.
I recommend this (esp. on a sale) If you are the type of gamer who cares mostly about gameplay over story / worldbuilding. Quite similar to Xcom, the manual aiming and ricocheting of shots is a really novel and good feature, keeping the game quite fresh and engaging without relying on RNG. This ricocheting of shots also applies to enemies who miss their targets, making their turns less predictable as they may accidentally kill themselves on an explosive barrel, or hit your backline. So the gameplay loop is really fun and engaging, and Its really good for short sessions as well, being originally developed for the Handheld Nintendo 3DS. Apart from the core gameplay, there isn't much going on. You go from mission to mission with some dialogue and story exposition in between. While this keeps it focused on the good stuff, the lack of breathers between the gameplay can desensitize you to the gameplay.
