TL;DR decent game for fans of walking sims or horror games like Amnesia. Amazing atmosphere, voice acting, graphics, world design, but dull gameplay and not much of a horror game. The DLC captures the horror experience better and is also very worth playing. The biggest thing this game has going for it is the setting, atmosphere, characterisation of the world it builds, which I think has generally been The Chinese Room's strength (see Everybody's Gone to the Rapture as a comparable example in this regard). It is such a distinctive and well-realised setting, enabled and furthered by the beautiful graphics and top-notch voice acting and dialogue. Having said that, I enjoyed the start of the game the most, when you can really soak up the atmosphere before the story really gets going. IMO it loses a lot of that once it starts tying in more of the horror elements, though it does still maintain a consistent setting and tone throughout. I also didn't find it to be the most engaging game ever. If you've played other walking sims you probably know what to expect, but there's no inventory or resource management etc., you basically just walk from place to place, crawl across beams, climb …
I cannot recommend this game in good faith at its current price.
At its current price point of $35, there is simply not enough content wise for me to consider it worth paying for; this game should be like $15-$20 for what you get, or more aptly what you *dont* get
The Characters
I liked the characters in this game; They are charming and each have their own different personalities and I enjoyed the little chats you have with them. Unfortunately, I can only say this about the 1-2 characters that you actually spend enough time around to build any sort of the relationship with. This game is 4 HOURS LONG, and like 75% of the characters you meet will die way before you have any time to actually care about them in any meaningful way. Roy is the only character who actually gets fleshed out at all, and that's because you are constantly talking with him and meeting up with him throughout the game. This could've been the case with the other characters, but there is no opportunity for it because the game is so short, so you end up with like 6 random guys that Caz will address by name who you saw a single time 2 hours ago, and you're left sitting there thinking "Oh i g…

Great graphics, great lovecraftian atmosphere. Gameplay is basic, story is servicable. Some technical issues with sutters/low fps/crashes. Constant busywork and going back and forth can get tiresome. It is a 4 hours adventure that could could be packed into 2 hours of content. Definetely worth it if you buy on heavy discount.
