Absolute must have for any brawler fans. There is only one bad thing about this port which I will address now, the emulation is tied to monitor speed unfortunately. Since this was originally a 60 FPS game in both Japan and US releases, the answer for Nvidia users is a simple 60 fps perma lock just for this game in Nvidia CPL if your screen is above 60 hz, or RTSS for most everyone else. Do NOT put your screen in 60hz mode as the solution as input latency will increase, which is for any game, not just this. And you want it as low as possible for this type of game. Now, I am kind of shocked at the mixed reviews and the only thing I can think of is that some do not like the actual original game, as this conversion, besides the issue above, is flawless in all other ways. You get BOTH the far superior Japanese version of the game which added 2 stages, different music order (subjective which you'll prefer), much better weapon balance and other tweaks. In fact, Evercade released the Japanese version on the Technos volume 1 cart but with the Super Double Dragon name rather than Return of the Double Dragon. But fear not, the Japanese rom's menus are all in English as is in game and it's t…

I shouldn't have to change my MONITOR SETTINGS to run a ROM from 1992.

The game that I always considered to be Double Dragon IV until they released a game with that name years later. At the time that this came out, this was, hands down, the best Double Dragon game. It had the classic gameplay style, and also added in some new combat mechanics like the catch a punch and counter technique that I exploited the ♥♥♥♥ out of. Playing it now, it's still a helluva lot of fun and I wish my cousin was at my side as I progress through like years ago on the SNES.

Having started out with the original 'Dragon trilogy on the NES, I'll never forget firing up Super Double Dragon for the first time ever on my Super Nintendo. The menacing, opening notes of Mission 1, the colourful array of neon lights from a Las Vegas backdrop, and the sounds of explosions bursting from my television speakers all made for an experience unlike any other. That was my introduction to the 16-bit era of gaming, and more importantly: my fascination with 'beat 'em ups on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Twenty years later, Super Double Dragon has been reissued on Steam. To celebrate the occasion, Arc Systems Software has bundled Super with a handful of extras. For starters, 'Return of Double Dragon'; the Japanese port of Super Double Dragon complete with added levels and alternate gameplay comes as an added bonus. A game which many purists consider to be the definitive version of Super Double Dragon. Much like the days of emulation, players also have the ability to use save states, offering four save slots which can be loaded, saved, and even locked (to avoid having a previous file accidentally being saved over). Though, the greatest incentive in my opinion w…
