Double Dragon Trilogy

A poor port of a trilogy that is famous for popularizing the beat-em-up genre. I played the Double Dragon trilogy on the NES, which were awesome games (though III is insanely difficult, and playing it as an adult, I couldn’t believe that I was able to make it to the final boss of that game as a kid without cheating). I always wanted to try the arcade versions because I never really ran into them and wondered what they were actually like. When I saw this, I got really excited because I love when classics are modernized with a button to pop in more quarters and even rewind features and other enhancements. I saw the poor reviews of this game, and I wasn’t sure what to do. I figured I’d give it a try. Everyone’s complaints are valid; while it’s not the worst gaming experience, it is not a good job of preserving gaming history while enabling modern conveniences. The Positives: -It’s the three Double Dragon games in one package. If you like the beat-em-up genre, then you’ll want to see the series that popularized it. -I had fun playing each game, and everything but the final bosses of 2 and 3 was generally an enjoyable experience. -It was interesting to see the same levels…

It's Fun, but I think there's an issue with the game itself. It feels like there's a major resource leak somewhere. I have a newer Gaming Laptop with an Nvidia 4050, and the game lags a little bit on Double Dragon I, on the last level. However, the game is solid other than some minor bugs that need to be addressed. Plays like the originals. Fun, and enjoyable. Nearly beat the first game on my first walkthrough and it felt like the coin-op.

Double Dragon 1 and 2 are awesome! Double Dragon 3 is donkey turds baking in the sun. Worth it for the first two games but save yourself the agony and don't ever play 3. It's just the classic arcade games that you can enjoy at home without pumping quarters into an arcade cabinet.

Purchase only for the second installment, "Double Dragon II: The Revenge." I've rarely seen a beat 'em up so balanced, and frustration-free (without being easy). It solves all the problems of the first installment, "Double Dragon." The online leaderboards are well-designed, and the page count allows you to accurately assess your ranking based on the number of participants. They removed the original in-game leaderboards, and I never "forgive" such matter things... but in this case, I'll make an exception because of great quality of second chapter and online leaderboards are well-maintained.
