Double Dragon Advance

I have played every DD game since its release in the arcades in the 90's. That being said. This game should really just be free to the public. There is nothing innovative or unique about this experience other than it feels like somebody home brewed this when they weren't at their regular 9-5 job. Can't recommend and I do not recommend this title for true fans of the OG game.

A proper faithful remake of the original Double Dragon arcade game, mixing in several elements from other entries. It doesn't feel anything like other beat em ups (particularly Final Fight / Streets of Rage in general), and the move list is surprisingly large. If you're looking to play a good representation of the classic games and aren't very concerned about being a purist for the literal original then this is probably the best choice. I'm still going to emphasize very much though: This is definitely still firmly rooted as an arcade game from 1987, so expect some control confusion and brutal moments of trial and error. ...And the classic waiting for enemies to walk back from being hit off screen. ...And the equally classic falling into death pits like a stupid idiot. (My suggestion is to rely on the kick most of the time for combat, it's pretty safe.) Has two-controller local coop despite being a GBA game originally, so that's a massive reason why this version is worth owning. The speed issue can also be fixed if you just apply a 60 FPS limit in your graphics card settings for the game; which is very stupid that it's a user required tweak, but it's easy enough to do at least.

I am still somewhat new to the Double Dragon franchise, but from what I understand it combines the best qualities of the previous titles before its release.

I've played Double Dragon, DD2: The Revenge, DD3: The Rosetta Stone, Super Double Dragon, Battletoads/DD, Double Dragon Advance, Double Dragon Neon, Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragon and many more if you count the arcade games and various console ports. So when I tell you that Double Dragon Advance is possibly the worst game in the series, I want you to know where I'm coming from. This is on the same level as the NES port of Rosetta Stone, it's THAT bad.

THE worst made Double Dragon EVER! And I still gave it a thumbs up! Why? Because its a classic captured in its classic horrible but worth preserving state. Its the perfect game to share with someone who wasnt around to experience gaming at its start. And of course... its Double Dragon sooo .. Nuff Said.

Double Dragon Advance is a pretty fun game - easily among the better Double Dragon games - but this is not a good release. Several technical issues, half-broken button remapping, clunky menus/emulation wrapper and no additional features to speak of makes it very difficult to recommend this over just downloading the GBA rom and playing in your emulator of choice. I'm strongly in favour of rereleasing older games on current platforms and keeping them commercially available, but if you're going to charge money for your product you've gotta do better than this.
