cant recommend while its still broken unfortunately. there is a risk of it generating a level that is impossible to clear, and for whatever reason there is no way of getting a newly generated level to beat instead. as far as the developer could tell the last time they looked into it, they didnt experience this problem, which is why i say "risk". it seems some players have to just be unlucky enough to play up to that point and get stuck forever. and the generated level must be tied to something cause it persisted between pc and steam deck. anyway outside of that its a great game, just unfortunate that it works that way.3 found this helpful
incredibly fun on a mechanical level! the music's great, the climbing is really satisfying especially once you progress a bit and get some of the upgrades. it's a procedurally-generated, level-based layout, so there's quite a bit of replay value, and it's not too punishing if you fail and have to go back a bit. the big issue with the game is the bugs. i didn't initially notice any, the climbing itself is actually really polished, but the level generation can really freak out sometimes in ways that make the game hard to recommend on its own. one of my levels (3-2?) was always the same seed, one time a level generated completely empty, etc. it's super fun if you can get past the bugs, but given that there haven't been any updates basically since release, don't expect that to change anytime soon.2 found this helpful

Surmount: A Mountain Climbing Adventure is a delightful indie platforming experience developed by Jasper Oprel and Indiana-Jonas and published by Indiana-Jonas. Built around the simple concept of climbing a gigantic mountain, the game transforms that premise into a memorable adventure filled with physics-driven challenges, exploration, humor, and a surprising amount of personality. Rather than focusing on realism, Surmount embraces a playful approach that encourages experimentation and rewards persistence, making every climb feel like a unique story of success, failure, and discovery. The core gameplay revolves around ascending the massive Mount Om using a movement system based on physics and momentum. Players must grab ledges, swing across gaps, and carefully navigate increasingly complex terrain while dealing with the unpredictability that comes with the game's mechanics. This creates a constant sense of tension because every movement matters, yet the controls remain approachable enough for newcomers. Reaching a difficult ledge after several failed attempts feels genuinely rewarding, while unexpected slips and tumbles often lead to humorous situations instead of frustration. The…
Very cute and very buggy
This game has a super weird climbing mechanic, but it's actually really fun for casual sessions once you get the hang of it. It does take a while to figure out, and even then, you sometimes have those one offs where you might throw yourself off the mountain by mistake. It's totally worth it those times you fling yourself perfectly though. Agreed with the other reviewers that the lower mountain sections are the most fun, but I didn't mind the challenge on the later half.
