SWORDSHOT appears to be a 2D retro pixel bullet hell/shmup, but it isn't. It's a 2D retro pixel one-button QTE style game where you must shoot the object surrounded by orbiting retro pixel "defenders". If you hit a defender you take damage, if you hit the target, it takes damage. That's all there is to this. On the upside, this isn't just a garbage template/asset flip, and it even has 16:9 support. On the downside, they chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. The gameplay is really, really shallow. Like this might be a great game for you if you think Space Invaders is far too complicated and it gives you headaches when you have to struggle between moving left or right as well as shoot. Charging $5 for this is a bit optimistic, to say the least.

Ok, Listen. This isn't Skyrim or whatever. It's a single button arcade game where you try to shoot past increasingly difficult barriers. If you watched the trailer, you know exactly what this game is. But this game knows what it is, and it does it well. If you have bad reaction times (like me) you probably won't get that far, but it's fun to give it a go. I wish there were permanent upgrades or a difficulty setting or something so that I could have more time with it, but I enjoyed what I played.

man this is hard to write a recommendation for. It good at what it does, but I don't think what it does is enough to warrant a purchase. The art is cool, the sound design is solid, but the gameplay just isnt there. There are many other better options for five bucks on steam. However, it is just five bucks so if timing based button presses are a game mechanic you get off on then send it. for everyone else it's a pass.
