Tell Me Why

Maybe it was my fault for expecting the quality of a Life Is Strange game... Tell Me Why has been so boring so far. I have nearly two hours in, and it has felt like a chore. I’m an avid reader, so I can bear with slow-paced and exposition-heavy beginnings, but here it feels like every bit of information is being shoved down my throat. The objects I can interact with feel like filler upon filler, without really adding anything meaningful to the experience. A lot of the time I’m just interacting with things because the game wants me to interact with something. It gives the illusion of exploration without making that exploration particularly rewarding. The controls feel a bit experimental, but you get used to them. What you don’t get used to, though, is the slow walking and not being able to run most of the time, the sound constantly becoming muffled in an uncomfortable way, and having your character perform acrobatics just to make the interaction UI appear. Unfortunately, the pacing makes all of this much more noticeable. There are stretches where I feel like I’m just slowly walking from one interaction prompt to another while waiting for the actual story to happen. I don’t mind slo…

The choices presented are limited and the mechanics only start to open up by the third chapter. It has a good concept but the hook is very weak. With the advent of time, there are definitely better games with a more interesting story on transitioning and have more depth ([spoiler]Celeste[/spoiler] for example)

It's one of those games where the opening cutscene establishes such a sad situation, you go through a bunch of twists and turns to find the truth, and by the end of it I can't decide if it's better or worse. But I haven't been this invested in a story in such a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. No chase sequences+no quick time events, so you can enjoy it on the couch with snacks and friends like a playable movie.

I'm actually not a fan of the game. I am straight and immediately got turn off when I have to play as the trans. I kicked myself when Tyler and her sister said men smell bad once he started taking testosterone. Women love the smell of men and their testosterone. This is one of those woke stupid games. I love seeing Alaska, the mountains, snow and waters. I loved the landscape, the woke side of the game killed it for me, especially when I am forced to play as Tyler, the always bitter trans seeking for whatever it is I cannot make sense of. Go for it, if you love story driven games.

I miss this game so much.... :(
