Life is Strange: Double Exposure

I'm 5 hours in and I just can't bring myself to give a recommendation. I love OG LiS and BTS and was really looking forward to playing as Max again. Going into DE I knew the story wasn't going to be anything to write home about but I wasn't prepared for the complete lack of soul here although I must say that the first hour was really quite good. That unfortunately makes the steep drop off even more disappointing. And that is what describes this game best for me: I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. What I am mad about though - and very much so - is the technical aspect of the game. Boy is the optimization a disaster of epic proportions. I have not yet found a setting where the faces don't look like wax figures or the background is flimmering or everything is completely blurry... Fix one thing and at least one new issue pops up. I can get over the fact that for my specific GPU (RX 9070) the clouds get red lightbulbs in them if you have Effects turned above Medium but drawing such immense resources while looking so incredibly mid is baffling in its own right. Put this game off for a while because of the lack of Chloe and other rumours I heard about it, but that was a mistake. Chloe WAS mentioned many times, but the game was totally fine without her. The story was great and I'm glad I finally gave it a try. Also, Amandaaaa. Now onto Reunion...

Life is Strange: Double Exposure isn't a bad game, but for me, it's very disappointing—especially after playing the previous games in the series. I genuinely liked some things about it, but unfortunately, they were overshadowed by decisions that made me question where the series is going. I really liked how the game started, particularly the use of the owl. In my country, and in many parts of Europe, owls can be seen as a bad omen, especially when heard or seen at night, sometimes associated with death approaching. Because of that, I thought the owl imagery and its presence throughout the game were clever and fitting. I also liked seeing the butterfly return, and there were some genuinely clever moments and interesting ideas throughout the story. Some of the side characters were enjoyable as well, and at times I found myself more interested in them than the main characters. One thing I particularly missed, though, was the music. Music has always been one of my favorite parts of Life is Strange. The previous games had soundtracks that felt carefully chosen for their characters, atmosphere, and individual moments. was it bad? yes. did i actually really enjoy it? yes. feels more like a standalone game, and it has a lot of glitches and crashes. but it was so fun to me
