The Alighieri Circle: Dante's Bloodline

Extremely Disappointing — Not Worth the Money I went into The Alighieri Circle: Dante’s Bloodline expecting a game that actually made meaningful use of Dante Alighieri, Beatrice, The Divine Comedy, and Vita Nuova. Unfortunately, the connection to the source material feels extremely weak. The story is a generic, contrived mess that does little justice to the fascinating material it is supposedly based on. The graphics are probably the best part of the game. Unfortunately, good graphics cannot compensate for a weak story, frustrating puzzles, technical problems, and an extremely short experience. The puzzles are unnecessarily difficult and, at times, more frustrating than entertaining. I had to resort to you tube videos because wandering around trying to figure out what the game wanted me to do became tedious very quickly. And then there is the developer support — or rather, the complete lack of it. I was having technical problems with the game and posted in the discussion forum specifically asking the developer for help. The developer never responded to me. Not a word. Yet I could see the developer responding to other discussion posts, including posts written in Italian.…

Great game, story, performance and the visuals were pretty good. Only thing i didnt like was the puzzles, some were pretty hard but overall pretty good game.

7.5/10 The ending is amazing. The cinematics are amazing. BUT.... There are three puzzles that make no sense, and have no clues to guide the player. The Chess puzzle wasn't clear enough and left me wandering around aimlessly for a good 20-30mins. The Room puzzle was so ridiculously unclear, I had to use a walkthrough, and even they had no idea why the answer to the puzzle was the way it was. #fail Improve the puzzle clues and hints. I get that it's meant to be complicated (the first puzzle with the 7 deadly sins and 7 virtues was good), but when you don't explain or hint what you expect the player to do, we end up just aimlessly wandering around in circles, and no one likes that.

Okay, so... The strongest (and at times weakest) feature is the story the game is trying to tell... A great idea for a concept, that falls a bit flat in the execution at times, and struggles to enforce the rules it established at the beginning, causing some confusion and frustration. I love the divine comedy, and this game definitely felt like it was expanding on the rich universe the poem created... I think there's a lot of potential still left to explore more ideas within this concept, but you MUST at least know the basics of the seminal poem to truly enjoy this game. All this ritual / Dante's Inferno stuff is all fine and great or whatever but tbh I just want to stay in this baller ass mansion a bit longer!
