The Berlin Apartment

First of all, I really expected something different. I thought this story would recount the stories of the inhabitans of the games apartment and it´s transformation over time. It does neither. It certainly tells stories of characters in the apartment and they are connected to the reality, but the stories are made up by the characters in the present (which is by the way no spoiler, it is made clear right at the beginning). Especially one of the stories was very tedious to play and I nearly didn´t finish it. I do love history though and I guess that is why this review is positive, as I really enjoy to play in historic scenarios. I can´t recommend this game to everyone, but I certainly wouldn´t want to give the game a negative review, especially because I also liked the message, this game wants to spread. If you want to try this game I would recommend to wait for a sale though.

I played through this game in one sitting. Sure, that means it's not a -long- game. It didn't let me go though. I enjoyed the main characters and the stories they told about the people who ived in the Berlin apartment. Might have even shed a tear at some point. The German voice actors did great in this game, too.

I enjoyed the game, the story was interesting and the art is really nice. The game is pretty short for the price though (took around 4 hours for the first playthrough and I was trying to be thorough), so I would only recommend buying it on sale if that's something you're worried about. My biggest complaint about the game is that there are missable achievements on a first playthrough and you have to replay the game to 100% it, but there's no options to skip through dialogue making it really tedious to get those last few achievements.

I've just finished playing The Berlin Apartment, a walking sim developed by Blue Backpack, and published by Blue Backpack, ByteRockers' Games, and PARCO GAMES. It took me four hours to finish all the achievements, but it could probably beaten casually in under three. The Berlin Apartment takes place in the year 2020, when a young girl and her father begin renovating a dilapidated apartment in Berlin. As the the two work to repair the building, they exchange stories about its former residents across the past century. The anthology has four short stories, each featuring a different resident of the apartment in each of the following years: 1989, 1967, 1945, and 1933. Each entry in the anthology is intended to spotlight a period of historic significance, such as the lead up and resolution of WWII, as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall. Despite being set in sensational periods of history, the writing fails to deliver across any of the anthologies. Characters are simultaneously chatty, while saying very little at all. In the first story, the character lies on the ground and monologues to themselves for at least five minutes about basically nothing. The other stories are disappointingl…
