About The Confines Of The Crown
Madeleine Valois is a prince's companion. It is her responsibility to keep him out of trouble - not to let him walk blindly into a political minefield, not to let him get arrested for a crime he didn't commit, and definitely not to let him fall in love with her...

The Confines Of The Crown, developed and published by Hanako Games, is an intricate and choice-driven visual novel that blends romance, courtly drama, and political intrigue into a layered narrative experience. Set within the kingdom of Ocendawyr, the story places players in the role of Madeleine Valois, a sharp-minded and well-educated noblewoman tasked with serving as companion and advisor to Prince Oscar. Her duty is not merely ceremonial; she is responsible for guiding him through the complex social and political landscape of the royal court, helping him avoid scandals, strengthen alliances, and secure his future. What begins as a tale of mentorship and noble obligation gradually unfolds into a web of conspiracies, shifting loyalties, and personal revelations. Madeleine stands out as a proactive and capable protagonist. Rather than being a passive observer in a world of powerful men, she actively shapes events through her intelligence, composure, and strategic thinking. Her upbringing and education equip her to analyze situations carefully, making her well-suited to the diplomatic tightrope she must walk. The narrative emphasizes her agency, allowing players to decide how she …1 found this helpful
The Confines of the Crown is definitely a dated game - it came out in 2015 - but it still has some charm and is quite a fun, short game for a fan of otome. The game follows Madeleine, handmaid to prince Oscar of Oceandawyr, who accompanies him to the kingdom of Gwellinor for the princess' debut. She is seeking a husband as she's coming of age and Oscar is one of the princes vying for her affection. The other are Nazagi and Gaston, princes from vastly different kingdoms. On the night of her party, princess Cassidy is kidnapped and Prince Oscar is blamed. Through a series of different routes, learn more about the secret behind Cassidy's disappearance and grow close to a prince. My ranking:
Oscar < Dolores (good ending, not the route) < Callum < Gaston < Nazagi
I can see the baby otome genre in this game... It's so nostalgic. The art is great, I love the CG art, and the sprite art is fun and colourful. The characters' faces have a few expressions and their sprites also move. I liked the ability to go back through the gallery to look at the CGs but they were also not sorted by character, theyre just in four pages of images. This game is quite unexpected - it remi…
Decent game! I liked how it wasn't clear cut in the sense that each good ending equals romance. Maybe that won't appeal to everyone, but I liked it. I felt that not all the routes were as strong as each other. And they are quite different, so I found myself loving some while not enjoying others as much. Still, the good routes really drew me in. Gaston's route was my favourite, he's a star! And his good ending was my favourite. There are some issues as others have pointed out, but overall it's a decent game
I did not like this game right away. The setting is nice and royal, the main character is WONDERFUL, and character designs are nice. However, the first playthrough I did what I felt my character would do and that got me absolutely nowhere so anything goingon behind the scenes remained unknown to me. And it seemed to be the worst possible outcome. Only on replays, more scenes opened up and I got to see more of what's actually going on and could affect the story more. ANd now I absolutely love the story. Howeever it is a shame that there aren't more decisions to be made like their other games. Whether someone likes you or doesn't like you is summed up by ONE decision, sometimes an insignificant one that SHOULD mean nothing. So in the gameplay aspect it isn't as good. I give reluctant support only because of the playthroughs and how detailed each track gets as you follow different characters. MOst of this game just happens to you. The choices are few and far between . The character designs are lovely especially the main character. I just wish there were more choices to make, and things to do like their other games
As someone who enjoys visual novels and multiple endings, I like this game because you can unlock different routes after each play-through, skip to decisions, and save at any moment (aside from decision points). But it is very text heavy, and I would like shorter paragraphs as the text portions are rather lengthy. But if you're looking for something more interactive than a book, this game might just be for you!
