After finishing The Czar is Dead, I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad visual novel. You play as the Czar during WWII in an alternate history where the Russian Revolution is avoided. The story kept me interested, and the hand-drawn art is decent, but the strong focus on religion didn’t really work for me. I’d recommend it only to those really into this type of historical twist or "weird" games.5 found this helpful

A cruious little visual novel where we experience about 50 years of 20th century history from emperor Nicholas II's POV if the October Revolution never happened. Some historical figures and facts are mixed around with a modern agenda, featuring characters loosely based on modern Russian political figures. Kind of feels like it's poking fun at current day politics. I like how there's a good amount of options whenever you need to make a choice, most visual novels force you to choose "either or". The absolute highlight is the art style. I hate generic looking anime visual novels, this looks much more impressive and feels like it was made with love. English localization is rough around the edges and the story isn't particularly exciting, but it does feel semi-authentic to how the history could've played out. 8/10
