The Defenders: The Second Wave

The Defenders: The Second Wave is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This is a particularly badly made, sloppy 2D platformer/shooter/brawler with a few boss fights and things, the key interest is probably the advancement system which is welcome in any game, but in this case it's just wasted effort when getting the basics right... janky controls, sluggish gameplay, poor hitboxes, and terrible visuals... the list goes on. So let's get into it. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The artwork here is terrible, it's a blend of old retro pixel "art" used as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics, and some of the most amateurish MS-Paint style drawings I've ever hurt my eyes on. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can do graphics properly, or lack of talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result of these decisions. genuinely a great game, despite its extreme obscurity, and very obvious simplicity, the defenders second wave is an extremely fun game, forcing you to adapt to your simplistic controls to combat increasingly stronger and more dangerous monsters, this game is absolutely worth the cheap price tag, and you can definitely feel that this game was made with passion, not for money, if you have the spare cash, i greatly encourage you to try this game out, because it is surprisingly great for such a small, obscure game. edit: the game will not work with steam compatibility mode on, go to steams file location, right click steam.exe and select properties, go to compatibility and turn off compatibility mode, then restart steam.

Alright. So. It's not great. BUT it is actually kinda fun. I used to play this game with my cousins as a kid when it came out on the xbox 360. Great memories. I'd been looking for this game for three years because I wasn't even sure it was real and not something I just made up in a dream. Lo and behold, it does in fact exist. Thank you for making this strange coding project of a game random guy from my childhood.

Used to play this as a kid on xbox 360 and just found the game again. It still holds up.

good game really good but hard that makes it fun so i will rate it 8/10
