July 10, 2061, Sunday. City: Nariyama. Prefecture: Chiba.
Yamanashi Sora designed a new radio using spare parts.
"Phew... Just in time."
That day marked the fifteenth year since the artificial pigeons started devouring all radio waves.
On it, Sora began broadcasting using the transceiver left to him by his father.
The day after his first rocky radio program, the radio picked up a different mysterious broadcast.
This is a follow-up report on the fall of "Blue Sky."
The person caught up in the accident at the former site of Terminal 1 has been identified.
The name of the deceased is Yamanashi Sora. Furthermore, many injuries are being reported at Nariyama Sky Academy."
It was a radio broadcast from the future.
"I'll... die in three weeks?"
After listening to the ominous broadcast, Sora stepped into the terminal for the first time in fifteen years.
It was once the former gateway to Japan and the place where Sora lost his parents.
The building was in ruins, a shadow of its former glory, little more than a nest to countless artificial pigeons.
There, Sora met a silver-haired maiden. She looked straight at Sora, gently stroking an artificial pigeon with her finger.
"...You won't die."
Sora was dumbfounded.
"I won't let it happen."
"Because I want you to look up at the sky and smile."
This is how Yamanashi Sora and Hazuki Kaguya met.
2061, Japan.
Mankind has lost the sky, and with it, its connections.
All of it was taken away by birds...
...By countless artificial pigeons flying through the sky.
The artificial pigeons were initially created as a worldwide wireless network that covers the entire globe.
But one day, they turned and began to eat the same airwaves they were meant to carry.
They feast on radio waves, breeding uncontrollably until they're the only birds left in the sky.
The first thing humanity lost was its communication network.
This caused great turmoil in a digital world that had already transitioned away from analog technology.
All information sent through radio waves was quickly blocked.
Even airplane control systems stopped working, rendering them unable to safely land.
The day the pigeons turned, eight planes fell around the Nariyama International Airport.
With all remaining planes grounded indefinitely, the airport was abandoned.
And so, mankind lost the sky.
But then, 15 years after that fateful day...
In an attempt to reclaim humanity's connection with the sky, a young tinkerer constructs a new kind of radio...

The story has an interesting premise but poor execution, as a fan of Laplacian’s previous work a.k.a ‘Newton and the Apple Tree’, I truly wanted to like this story yet I couldn’t till the end. Like Newton and the Apple Tree’, Future Radio’s sci-fi gimmick is shallow without an in-depth exploration of the established premise, however, Newton’s characters feel truly developed while Radio’s has none of it. A common rule of ladder structure story is the narrative allows every character to have some form of development and this development persists even if their route wasn’t chosen at the end of the story, Radio’s storytelling fails in this aspect. The common route may bring the whole group together but it doesn’t have enough time to flesh out other members once the main heroine joins in. The romance feels abrupt without substantial intimacy, the humor is cringe, and there are many loose ends that the author blatantly tries to gloss over such as the cause of the first-midnight broadcast that kickstarts the whole story, Kaguya's dad, the breeding feature of the Artificial Pigeon, etc. At the climax of the story and even in the after-story, the author ignores the friend group’s dynamic to…3 found this helpful
Future Radio and the Artificial Pigeons is a short-ish (10 hours for me after removing idle time) emotional multi-route mystery that does have some plot holes in it which detract from what I feel is otherwise a wonderfully written story. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a multi-route mystery or an emotional story. I don't feel like I can write an in depth review for this VN without going into major spoiler territory, so I'll just go into some basics. The characters are relatable and cute, the music is well done, and there's even a relatable male friend support character present. It does strain credulity a bit that all the heroines fall in love with the guy, moreso than your average VN. Systems are fairly standard for the genre. Like I mentioned above, there are a few major plot holes which you may notice while reading, and while that does detract from the score a bit I think that's almost to be expected in any [spoiler] time travel / separate timelines [/spoiler] story, and if you can accept the plot holes that are there, it's still a great story. I just think they prevent it from being an amazing story.1 found this helpful

An interesting premise, the story is good and like how it also feel similar to the Newton and the Apple Tree that I really love. The similarities are from the story involves time and science. One thing I do wish is the story to be longer with mostly having to know more of the other characters since the majority of the story was focusing on the plot that relates to the pigeons. Even when reaching to one of their routes, it does show more on the character but felt short. The music is really nice, I was actually feeling the setting and situation going on when playing through the story.
The art was nice. The characters and the humor, mostly OK. Voice acting was alright when it’s there. The story, I can’t care enough to finish it. I suspended my disbelief to the premise of plot, it was hard, but it’s fiction. That wasn’t the main issue for me. Once a certain character joins you in a manner of speaking, I just lost interest.
