The Last Heroine

The Last Heroine is a game that I found more interesting in concept than in execution, but there is still something enjoyable buried underneath its rough presentation. I play as a lone warrior exploring mysterious ruins suspended in the sky while searching for the Guardian of the Ruins. The dark fantasy setting immediately gave me the feeling of a small Souls inspired adventure, and I liked the basic idea of having to push deeper into a dangerous place with limited resources. The combat is built around dodging, parrying and different types of attacks, so timing is much more important than simply attacking whenever I get the chance. I liked the moments when I managed to read an enemy properly and land a successful parry or dodge at the right time. There is a satisfying feeling when I start understanding an enemy's attacks, although the combat can also feel clumsy because the movement and targeting are not always as responsive as I would like. Exploration is another important part of the experience. The ruins form a maze that I have to work my way through while looking for weapons and shields. The perfect game.

"The Last Heroine" is just a low key asset flip.. the quality of the sometimes mismatched looking assets is suspiciously much higher than the actual game is, and that's a glaring mismatch. Who's going to create a bunch of high quality assets and then phone in the actual game? It doesn't add up... unless you consider how easy it is for anyone, even people unqualified to make games, to get any and all the game assets they want. The game is essentially a kitbash of assets made by other people, poorly assembled by an amateur developer. These projects are usually rushed through Steam Direct as fast as possible, and the lack of professional standards means the end result is something no gamer should waste their time on. This is a laughably bad Unreal engine kitbash with next to no content, no polish, no optimisation... just a handful of plagiarised assets dropped on a basic third person game blueprint from Unity. There's a bit of a castle thing arranged out of the assets that you can run around in and some suit of armour assets to whack with a sword, but the combat is as bad as everything else in this train wreck. I've beaten it and, well, this is definitely one of the games of all time. If we're talking seriously, there's no balance but it's not the biggest issue. Map is procedure generated and sometimes it genereates bossfight entrance in someone's ###, so you can't get in. And the most important part - everything feels meaningless, 'cause you're entering into the bossfight without your gear and there's only a random weapon and defensive thing available. So it makes no difference if you spawn right next to the entrance or not, it only makes a long run to the boss annoying.
