About The Last Hero of Nostalgaia

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is a satirical action-adventure, driven by a dark story, set in an incredibly rich and complex world.

Nostalgaia, the world of videogames, is collapsing backwards into a mysterious pixelation, with every particle of fidelity bleeding away. Oblivion seemingly awaits even our most cherished gaming memories. But as the lighting dims and frames diminish, with the world on the brink of extinction, hope emerges to fight back.

As the most hideous pixelated hero to ever spawn in Nostalgaia, you must fight through an army of its mindless inhabitants, while being jeered by a cynical narrator who despises your very existence.

Featuring hard but fair combat that fans of the genre will relish, along with *full character customization, unique battle armor and engaging narrative mechanics rich in lore, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia’s twisted and wicked tale is prepared to send you headfirst into almost certain death around its every vertex.
  • Set in a world celebrating video game nostalgia, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia features hard but fair souls-like exploration and combat, combined with a twisted, wicked tale told by a cynical narrator
  • Play together through online co-op and brave the pixelization together!
  • Uncover various suits of armor and weapons, each with their own unique lore and attributes

100% a souls-like. The developer even gives a special thanks to Miyazaki in the credits. There's over 60 melee weapons and many have special skills or passives to unlock. It reminds me of older souls games with a slower dodge roll but it's completely fine. There's not many spells though. No catalysts for spells. Just a couple handfuls of combat spells and a handful of utility spells but they're very useful and you'll use them a lot. I liked the armors too. Lots of different armor sets to find. Some enemies drop their armor and they also have random drops included. I didn't like how fast travel is only in the late game.... very very late game. I didn't like how little of the upgrade materials there were for the last 2 levels of weapon upgrading. So I accidentally found the save data and easily modified those numbers. The dev even has comments out there suggesting to modify the data to fix progression issues, etc. I had issues with combat sometimes, where my swings would miss the enemies. I would say about 15% of all my swings miss the enemy but i dealt with it just fine. The 2 DLC maps are alright. The Minecraft inspired map is pretty small but the Leisure Lake area is a little …

the story although fairly satirical is actually pretty competent theres alot of pieces to put together and it all tells the story of this massively corrupted world, the people that live in it and how it came to be every single item description i ran into was engaging and gave a good piece of the puzzle for you to piece things together with Gameplay this game is GANK CITY!!! theres very few and very rare encounters where it isnt several opponents against you the combat of the game, although is a soulslike, feels a bit like an afterthought since enemies are usually VERY predictable and very easy to kill aswell as weapons can sometimes have backwards design example: two handing a big sword for some reason leads to slower swings than one handing for the same damage, but two handing with a heavy attack leads to faster attacks that do more damage, they both have the same swing and yet the heavy attack far outclasses the light attack in all cases and scenarios i played two thirds of the game without upgrading my weapons once, i was always two or three hitting enemies and bosses posed little challenge aswell i should also mention, there is no teleporting between bonfires here a…

Combat is absolute garbage when dealing with more than one enemy. You just get stunlocked to death, and if you try to dodge to safety there is a braindead amount of recovery at the end of a dodge so enemies that relentlessly trail you will inevitably just kill you. P.S. Whoever designed the little scarecow enemies that backstab you and run away should be fired and made to crawl on a mile of legos on hardwood floor. By far the worse enemy design I've seen in a game this year.
