About The Last Monster Master

Will your monsters save the world, or destroy it? As a Monster Master, you'll telepathically train wild monsters to be treasure guardians, royal pets, or giant stone masons. As war breaks out with the kingdom to the north, will you train monsters to be vicious soldiers and mindless power generators?

The Last Monster Master is an epic 250,000-word interactive fantasy novel by Ben Serviss, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

How you care for your monsters will determine their fate–and yours–as the your kingdom faces a grave threat. Can you discipline your monsters with gentle compassion, or will you use cruel punishments to bring them in line? Will you lead your monsters to victory and prosperity? Or will you go down in history as the last Monster Master?
  • Embark on a 250,000-word journey of kinship, sacrifice and heart-breaking decisions.
  • Master Telepathy or Body Language detection skills to read monster minds.
  • Will your clan be ready to protect the realm when the time comes?

stat system not good.....bad balancing between choices.... I played as a caring kind master and the lasts few choices overthrew all my previous ones and suddenly I was super pragmatic evil master. Stats between monsters are relative, means if you have monster affinity A:91 B:91 C:92 D:90, it will be described you are doing favoritism for C. Also D will hate you because they are the lowest even though the difference btw C and D is just 2. There will be huge difference btw how C and D react to you. Which doesnt make any sense! Story wise.....a bit short but not bad. Its just that I wont do another run anytime soon.

This was a decent story, but that's about it. I did enjoy reading it, but I don't have any desire to read it again anytime soon. I would give this is 7/10.

A must-buy if you like the Choose Your Own Adventure or Choices Matter tags. I felt a real connection with the monsters I raised - you even get to name them! I'm not a parent but I'd imagine it's what parents feel - wanting to raise their kids to be the best they can be! I'm a fast reader, and finished one run in about 3 hours. 10/10 parent simulator, would raise monsters again!

I found it very fun and dependent on the players choices. I took a long time trying to decide on what I should choose. Every single part of the game was important to the outcome of the game.

I usually love Choice of Games stories... and I DID like this one at the beginning, but throughout the story it just feels like your choices don't really matter. I went for the caring master type, trying to bond and support every monster in my care. I couldn't care less for their career, I just wanted them to be happy with whatever was happening in the moment. And then, by the end of the playthrough, my monsters saw me as a cold uncaring master for some reason?? It felt like it didn't even matter what I did through the years I was with them, the game was set to make me look bad from the start. Anyway, it's a shame bc I was really enjoying it till that happened. Can't really recommend cause it feels like your choices don't really count in the end.

The ending felt a bit rushed, but overall a nice read.
