You’ve just inherited Cascade Manor from your eccentric aunt, but not only is it in a dismal condition, you have only 30 days to pay off the loan your aunt took out shortly before her death.
You decide to convert the manor into an inn, but while you’re busy trying to satisfy the needs of your unusual and persnickety guests, you discover that there is more to the manor than meets the eye...

This game is an extension of a short demo for the 2017 Indie Game Maker Contest, The Rock and the Rose (which won 2nd prize), with many more new items, areas, characters and upgrades, additional gameplay elements, a richer storyline, achievements, higher-resolution artwork, and improved pixel art and UI.
The sequel, The Hidden Art of Innkeeping, will be released on Sep 3, 2024!

This game is the first installment in a mini-series of inn-keeping and management games set in a low-magic world with a technological level comparable to that of the early 20th century. To be honest, it’s a small-scale production. However, small-scale doesn’t mean simple, and it’s clear that the developer is doing an excellent job with the tools at their disposal. [b]Would I recommend it? Yes. [/b] I had a lot of fun playing this game. Due to my own mistake (I played the series in reverse order), I accidentally spoiled the plot for myself. Despite that, I enjoyed learning about the origins and backstories of some of the NPCs who will appear in the sequel. Unfortunately, the flaws are more noticeable in this game - mainly because it was the first installment, serving as both a first attempt and a test of the concept. ✅[list] [*] Well prepared tutorial. Everything is presented in a clear and concise manner, some of the bigger games could learn a thing or two from this. [*] Cleverly implanted hint system. It's a short game, but I had fun
I finished my first playthrough of the game a while back and it was extremely satisfying. The game focuses on running the inn and managing the guests, but there's a dash of mystery to it as well. I enjoyed the game's pacing and the number of tasks was quite manageable. While the repeated interactions and dialogues got a little stale over time, the medley of characters and the story's progression kept my interest. There seems to be some replay value and extra content, which is a plus. I played the game on the Steam deck and it went smoothly. Overall, I would certainly recommend the game.

What a gem to come across. I was not expecting to enjoy running an inn as much as I have. Short and small, but lots of fun.
