The Lost Heir: The Fall of Daria

I played Life of a Space Force Captain, another game by the same creator, and really enjoyed it! Discussion about that game on Reddit highly recommended this game, but I was incredibly disappointed. Despite already having bought the game, it feels very play to win. There's an in-game purchase called the Legacy Advantage that I think you need to have any success in the game. I failed just about every skill check, despite doing all I could to increase my stats, and the game noted at times that the decisions I made were impossible sometimes. The skill checks were really high, and I really think you needed the Legacy Advantage to pass them. I didn't mind the failures at first, but, unlike Life of a Space Force Captain, your character doesn't learn from failing skill checks. I'd also hoped that failing so much would lead to some element of the story about your character growing over time, but it doesn't. The game is really, really short. I understand this is the first part of a trilogy, so I hope the story will continue to grow, but the skill checks are impossibly high, the characters aren't interesting, and the dialogue feels kind of rough. EDIT: Realized what bothers me: the narrative treats people as tools. The people in the story are not written as people. It feels so sociopathic to be placed in the role of a person who sees everyone around them as tools to advance their own life, to be used in any way they choose. And I mean "good" and "bad" paths, the writing is uniform throughout. It seems to reflect the author's view on the world, since the author seems incapable of discerning a difference regardless of which path you choose. I don't appreciate how women are written about. Too much focus on their looks, for one. One of the first descriptions of any character, if you select female childhood friend, is of the 12-year-old child, "her blue eyes carrying a promise of future beauty." You don't need to be looking at a 12-year-old and pondering whether you'll find her beautiful (read: sexually attractive) as an adult. That reads like a child groomer. It's weird. It's gross. You don't wanna, idk, tell me about this character's... CHARACTER? Their thoughts, their habits, their history with MC? Nothing? You have a stat notification "relationship improved with ____ " when you select flirt/romance choices, but you don't ha…

Cant recommended it, super short and I feel like as if my choices dont mater (Everything was a fail most of the time, even tho I like min maxing). And most importantly when I started it up it instantly tried to sell me a "A legacy advantage pack" for 1,59€. Which is hilarious!

not my kinda thing

Interesting format but, unfortunately , the developers are apparently taken in by by the whole "everything is gay" movement. One of the first decisions the player has to make is whether your character is gay, bisexual, or straight. In their defense, it's looking more and more like everything IS gay.

Good GAMEbook, okay gameBOOK. The DLC gave me huge nostalgia hits as someone who played the author's games years ago.
